Default Considering a move to the dark side.

Well seem to be having endless troubles with my car of late and now I need two new sills for the MOT in Feb.
Im getting the feeling it won't change and I constantly have things wrong with the car.
I have now got to the stage that I carry a pretty comprehensive tool kit in the boot just incase which to be honest is stupid.

I have been looking at Evo 9 Fq360's which seem to be a pretty serious car out straight of the box.
Only 2 maybe 3 years old at a push so should be more reliable than a 10 year old Impreza?
I know the tax will be £400 but to be honest I don't realy care.

And before anybody says buy a newage! No I don't like them.

So convince me why I shouldn't sell up?

Ev* 5 or 6 plus a 2.3, built for pennies, will give you around 500 bhp.

Two of my friends have them, and I'm toast now

Its a no brainer to me mate sell up and go for it, if an Evo is what you want them do it you only live once, These sort of cars are meant to be enjoyed not worrying whats going to go wrong.

Yeah dunx, but I'll bet yours makes a much better noise

I've driven only 1 evo admittedly, but I do honestly prefer the scoob, mostly because of the sound. Driven normally (you would have to, at least some of the time ) the evo sounds fairly normal, but the scoob is distinctive at any engine speed, and I think offers the driver a more involving and satisfying experience.

Basically, if you want to go from A to B real fast, then get an evo... but if you want to enjoy it more, and admittedly maybe get there a couple of seconds later, then stick with the scoob.

I take your point about the age of the cars though, and its something to consider. My advice is if you've been thinking about the Evo for a while and get a chance to own one, then maybe thats an itch you need to scratch, so go for it - there's nothing to stop you getting another scoob later if you change your mind

I had a new age scoob then switched to Evo 9, had no regrets, even compared to a 03plate scoob the evo 9 is built much better and is a joy to own. Servicing every 4500miles or 6mths though so a little more maintence than the imprezas. Drives really well, loads of grip and the AYC etc just eliminates any understeer and gives you a neutral balance that allows you to explore the limits.

FQ360 is a lovely motor, however a shrewd buyer would get a FQ300/320 and simply fit basic stage 1 and remap car for a solid 400/400. After all the 360 is just a badge, cat back and remap over the lower powered FQ models

with a scoob you are loonking at 12k scooby clinic 450 with a gearbox to suit (close but not 500 would be happy with this in a classic body)
thats no brakes no coilovers etc roll cage..........

what is a rough price on evo 6 (the only 1 i think is worth a w*nk) harsh, but i love scoobys the sound ect. think its a chav car but if the power comes cheap mabe an option.
need a time attack monster

if you want a track car for the road get an evo

if you want a road car for the track get an impreza

evos are also a much stronger starting package to begin with but you pay for it! They also sound like a mondeo lol

could go for a spec c as these are just as fast as an evo of similar power

im selling my evo to get another scooby as the evo is the most unreliable heap ive ever owned and the cost to keep them running rite is huge id stick with a scooby if i was you bud, if you get an evo you will always be trying to get it to give you the same rush of power as your scooby but after 2yrs and £5000 i still havent got there

I have had 2 evo's a evo 6 and a evo8 mrfq340 and I was a evo NUT. They are great cars but they do cost more to run and parts are £££. I now have a MY05 STI just to see want the scoobys are like and I enjoy driving this but it's no evo, give the evo a try they are a GREAT car

I can put you in touch with Ben* if you like, I'll have a word and PM you, obviously he just builds and installs them, you need to source fuel & turbo add-ons to suit, and then re-map it.

Any new twin scroll JDM car tbh, had my old spec c on an evo mag (greece) test against an FQ320, lets just say one car handled better than the other (mine ) and my standard (except the panel filter) spec c was actually quicker
As for interiors, not sure how you can say the evo has a far better quality interior, the recaro's are lovely but hell, horrid interior

Ciaran - I'm in exactley the same boat, I have a 97 Type-r which I am thinking I want to get rid of and get a ix FQ-360, Xtreme have a few in at the moment. I got rid of a Evo VIII FQ-320 to buy the type-r and although I found the Scoob to be more of a drivers car, it was not quick enought standard, que modding and the inevitable unreliablility. Thats why the 360 look so appealing, you will never have to mod it for it to be rapid.

Get your self down to extreme and have a test drive, but be prepaired to be sold on it when you do!

I nearly done the same thing earlier in the year mate and it's still on my mind now. To get the scoob to the power i want im going to have to chuck serious cash at it Or get an FQ360 a quick de-cat and remap and it's pusing nearly 400bhp. There are a few 500+bhp Evo's on Pistonheads at reasonable prices
Like this one West Sussex Specialist Cars : Evo V111 Cosworth 640 BHP

When I was looking to replace my car recently I drove the FQ300 and it was slower than the Sti hatchback, absolutely 100% certain (just look at magazine figures), dont know why there is so much difference as same power and weight on paper?

I thought the STi likes fuel but the evo drank big time, I wouldn’t recommend the FQ300 (17mpg at best) but the 330 and 360 are much better and excellerate like a supercar. Also the interior of the EVO is much better than the STI hatch and the handlng or the EVO well the STi hatch has closed the gap but the evo is slightly better.

For me I didn’t like the way the EVO drinks fuel and servicing intervals are a joke running costs are way too much. Definitely not a car if you do 15k miles per year, unless you are an IT director or an overpaid government management position (dig, dig, sorry but managers in charge of 7 people getting £80k is overpaid cpmpared to what private companies pay for the same position).

My mileage is pretty limited maybe 6-8k

Forget the Evo 6, Evo 9 is such a good car, just wish I could afford the estate version!

Evo is more £ to keep up the maintenance but as with most performance cars find yourself an independant specialist. Oh and have a look on the MLR.

Dont know how you come up with the evo being better than the scoob hatch (well maybe the UK version but definately not the JDM car ) the evo hasnt had the crown since the introduction of the JDM twin scroll cars, though the UK ones are quite different in comparision to the JDM car set ups (which have the likes of quick rack steering etc).

well you will find if you buy a new fq300 before january you get a free fq330 upgrade and the servicing on a new evo is every 10k now so there not that bad and yeah some can drink like a good en but it depends on how theyve been looked after plus mine does 16 mpg at the minute
