Default K-SPORT brake pads?

Ordered myself a set of k-sport front brakes for the scoob, hav'nt received them yet but will be with me in the next few days, they are 356mm 2 peice disc with 8pot calipers, only thing is since iv'e ordered them i've heard some bad things about the k-sport brand pads, are they really that bad??? have any of you had any issues with them? and should i bin them first as last for another set of pads, any recomendations? would be gutted to spend a wad of cash and end up with no noticable improvement on my oe wrx brakes, ta jarvis

For everyday driving they'll be fine and your braking will be so much better. You'll start to find the K sport pad limits after repeated heavy braking or some track work.

If you're going to swap go for some Ferodo DS2500 or preferably some Pagid Blue Pads. You'll not go far wrong with that combination, ever.

Thanks for that, i've got no intension of doing track days but i have been known to drive quite hard on the road espesially over the A4069 (black mountains) Heard of them? their quite local to me, thats where i had major brake fade in october coming back from the myherin stage of rally gb, thats what finally persuaded me to upgrade my brakes, heard the pf 01 pads are good too, expensive tho.

I've heard of the Black mountains alright. I'm an ex bootneck and taken on some of the 22 lot over the Pen Y Fan and lost, miserably lol. Still remember how good the coffee tasted at the Storey Arms mind you.

My advice would be to see how you get on with the K sports first. You never know they may just do the job and you might not have to buy anymore. That's certainly better than paying out if you really dont need to.

I had the KSports on my classic with the early generation pads. They were tonk to say the least and i managed to cook them and they fell apart.

Bren replaced them with the new ones FOC. They were the street pads, the sport pads are ment to be better, i dont think the street pads are even offered anymore tbh.

As Daz says you may find they are up to the job, Black mountains nice place, never driven the roads but tabbed over them a few times. Daz would have prefered to Yomp lol.

i have the standard k-sport pads in mine at the moment, they seems to survive my trip to the Ring this year without problem.

Got 4-5 trackdays booked for 2010 already, so they will be getting a beating.

I am just going to wear them out and replace them with something better (DS2500 etc).

AFAIK K Sport offer DS2500 as an original fit alternative to their own pads, you could ask for these. Nice thing about these calipers is that they use the same pad shape as the AP 5570 caliper so many alternative pad materials can be obtained for them. Alyn at ASPerformance 0191 4103770 is very good for advice and supply.

I had the K-Sport's on my Evo, my brakes went very weak on a track day, stuck some DS2500 in and never had the problem again, always used them since and would highly recommend them, great for the road as they bite from cold.

I had the sport pads, these were really bad, i would get brake fade after only a short road journey, seemed to wear down very fast also, needed changing after only 6.000 miles.

Swapped to k sport Yellow pads (£87 direct from EBC) and found these very good including some track work, They showed the true calipers true performance,

Swapping brake pads took 10 mintues, some of the easiest ones I've ever changed. Unlike the gold brembos!!!

6'000, thats about 3yrs for me so i could live with that but i'll have to see about the fade, did you have the 356mm cos apparently their better than the 330's for reducing fade, not a bad price for those ebc pads too considering the pf01 are iro £300.
