is there anyway that i can tell if my engine is a cdb without striping it down

cross hatching under power steering res , top left side above oil pump .

Normally they were the early 92/93 engines, if you have a much later car then the chances are it isnt.

thanks will check in the morning its a 96 wrx v-limited i only ask because i know afew that have the same model as me and some have cdb and some dont

Unfortunately majority of the import CDB's got ripped out on import or at some failure in their life. But they will range from 1992 to 1996.
But you could be one of the lucky ones, you will find the hatchings as pictured above by ste98turbo behind the alternator.
