Default Tribute Convoy for Tweenierob-UPDATE

People have been asking if we can do something in memory of Rob and as a way of getting people together to remember him. Where Rob was at his best was building a car for the drag strip and in taking his R32 out to stretch its legs over a quarter mile. Because of the weather we can’t arrange anything at Santa Pod but there are plans already started for something next year. And with no date yet for the funeral it was agreed that something should be done.

On Sunday 15th November a convoy will run from TR racing in Harlow down to Brighton race Course. This gives people a chance to spend a bit of time together, driving their cars and also for more people to hook up en-route. Originally we’d wanted to use the sea front, home of the Speed Trails but sadly there is a 10km race on that day.

Knowing that not everyone can get to the start at Harlow there will be other start points at:
  • South Mimms
  • Surrey: A3/M25 junction
  • Maidstone Services, M20
The route will be as follows:

TR Racing, then on to M11 and down to M25. The first stop will be just south of the road bridge (Kent side) at the Bluewater Industrial Estate; details of the exact location when we have responses from various landowners. This will also be where those starting at South Mimms will join the convoy.

From Bluewater Industrial Estate it’s around the M25 and a stop off at Clacket Lane services to meet up with people starting at the Kent meet up.

After Clacket lane it’s along the M25 and down the M23. Taking the Crawley turn off we will meet up with the Surrey convoy and then all join up for the journey towards Brighton. As you come off the motorway keep left and along Copthorne Way there are two large laybys on opposite side of the road for us to pull in and turn around (and it has a burger van!)

On the A23 is the Hickstead Services where we may stop. Once we have a list then we will know if people want to join the convoy at that point, if not we will just stay on the M23/A23 towards Brighton.

Please add your name to a list but please to make sure we can accommodate you and so we know how many cars and who to look out for, please PM My Self with the following details:
  • Name (forum or own name up to you)
  • Car type
  • Your starting location
  • Your email address
Your name will be added to a list which can be seen at GTROC.

Before the event everyone will be sent a full set of maps and times, please DO NOT BE LATE, we cannot afford to wait for stragglers at every stop.

9:45am Leave T R Racing
10:45 Leave Bluewater Industrial Estate
11:30 Leave Clacket lane Services
12:15 Leave M23 near Crawley
12:45 Leave Hickstead Services
13:30 Arrive Brighton Race Course

Anyone starting at South Mimms will need to leave there at 9:30am
Anyone starting at Maidstone Services will need to leave there at 10:15
Anyone leave the A3/M25 junction will need to leave there at 11:30 – ideally the Surrey convoy may well meet up with the Essex and Kent convoy on the M23!

Anyone that has ordered a sticker for their car will be given the sticker on the day. Those not able to join the convoy will be posted theirs the same time. If you have not ordered one and would like to someone will be available to sell you one on the day. In addition anyone wishing to make donations on the day we will have a collection box. All the money on the day will go to the Trust Fund for Lauren and to pay towards Rob’s funeral. We hope you can support this.

Once we get to Brighton Race Course please follow the signs and look out for the marshals. The Race Course have kindly let us have use of their lawn and facilities for free so please respect their wishes, which means no do-nuts and no burnouts. I am sure there are a lot of people who would want to see the TR R32 burn out one last time in respect to Rob. We will see what can be arranged.

After we have all parked up I am sure there are a few people who would like to say a few words and then we will hold a minute's silence in repect to Rob and to Nicola Newland.

We will be providing burgers and hot drinks – although I understand Harry has volunteered NOT to make the coffee this time! If you want to bring any cold drinks etc with you that is fine. The burgers will be sold at a little above cost with the extra money raised going towards the fundraising on the day.

Lets make this a great way to remember Rob. Please remember the police are aware of this and will be watching and for that reason we should all please obey the speed limits and other laws of the road.

See you all on the 15th and if you cannot be there, we know you will be there in spirit.
