Getting a MY99 scooby soonish and trying to budget for running it. I'm an enthusiastic driver but most miles are motorway, what mpg should I budget for and what about tyres, pads, etc. I understand this is difficult to predict as its driver related but your experiences would be useful.

Loads!
Motorway journeys you should get 26-27mpg easy, but think 25mpg overall
Give up food, drink and don't even think of going out, you should just about be able to afford it then
Welcome to Scoobdom!
Cheers

I only had mine a week and have now sold everything i own to keep it going and the garage is now out of Optimax!!! I thought my 5 series BMW was expensive, but this thing chews money for breakfast, lunch, dinner and bed time munchies!!!
Honestly tho I have just bought 4 new tyres, pirelli p6000's and have got the 30k service due in next 1000 miles. So expect some nice bills once you have forked out for the purchase price. However I have not stopped smiling since I bought it and can't wait to get home from work every night to go out for a nice relaxing drive Well worth being bankrupt for!

And just wait till you try to sell it, that grin will turn into a grimace as you realise you have poured about £5000, not including the same in running costs, in one year straight down the drain, excellent. Lets see if you are grinning after that.

Weekdays:
I cycle to work.
I borrow my girlfriends car.
I borrow my parents car.
I walk
I get the bus (sometimes)
I get my mates to give me a lift.
Weekend:
I have a huge grin when I throw open the garage door and
fire the scooby up and annoy the neighbours puulling out the drive with the Blitz system grumbling away!!
I love weekends!
As I keep telling people, I'd rather use my scoob at the weekend and do without during the week than have a crap car to use all the time......................

Shed Loads.
Dont forget that everyone forgets to budget for one very important thing when the cost up ownership......
MODS
Cost me £7k so far.
Kinda makes the MPG and servicing seem a bit irrelevant
Make sure you like the car 100% if your on a budget - otherwise you'll be spending and spending on it!!!!!!

Had the MY99 nearly a year now. Taken it from 57k to 73k
Services reckon on 150 small 400 large and the one in between, in between. I do mainly motorway miles and get 25 to and from work in rush hour traffic (25-70mph) but on a full 300 mile steady cruise you can see 30mpg (yes I was driving like a fairy)
Had to fit new front disks and pads £400 and just coming up to first set of tyres (they were new @57k)
I'm reckoning on keeping the car for four years, and as I'm about to get a company van, I reckon the mileage will calm down a LOT now.
All in all, just get one and get the missus to sleep with the bailiff

ure having a laff!! i return between 15-28mpg, and i usually find the economy is better when driving harder. pads every 6k, tyres around 10k, track days usually 2 tanks of avgas, 1 set of import v rated tyres (£100 quid with 15" wheels
I run a uk97, 2000 turbo, oscar turbo - back exhaust, boost (slightly) uprated, done 120k miles, only mashing a gearbox, new one cost me £500 quid (recon)..... On the other side, bought car with 60k, now 120k, bought 12 grand, now 5 (if lucky) draw your own conclusions...... )

I reckon WITHOUT depreciation but including, servicing, a few mods (wheels, exhaust, brakes), fuel, insurance and tax mine has cost me about £1 a mile. Okay I dotn do a huge mileage (about 5K a year) but then agian the fuel bill, parts and servicing bills would go up as well .
If you try and run one on a budget then the best of luck.
cheers

LOL Like I say I dont do a huge mileage done about 5000 miles
Okay forget the extra which can be taken off like wheels and exhausts.
Insurance and tax for 16 months comes to 1800 quid alone
Security and incar stuff 800
3 Services and various bits, including better brake pads, discs ,braided hoses, better lights 1400
Fuel 20mpg for 5000 miles 250 gallons @ 340p a gallon £850 quid
So total 1800+800+1400+850 = 4850
Soon adds up but okay some stuff you only pay out once but it still adds up.
cheers
oh forgot the octane booster @ 2.50 a tankful as well

Costs are HUGE.
If running it doesn't brake you, you'll spend the rest on mods.
Still, like the 911 'everyone deserves a scooby at some time'
Also you'll end up spending too much time on this site!
