it is indeed standard BUT i would check the front of the turbo housing as on the bottom of it it has an ID plate (my old 93wrx had a VF12 fitted)

You don't have to taker the turbo off just remove the pipes that are above it ,you may need to shine a light to see it.

A td05 will fit straight on as it's meant to be there.

Good for 320ish along with fuelling and intercooler mods.

Geasrbox and clutch will be struggling though

well if you want more than 320bhp (which the tds05 is good for) there are a load of turbos but it all depends on how much you want to spend ,how much power you, what engine spec you want or need, there is no definate answer because everyone is different.

320bhp in a classic is a fast car.

What is the rest of the car like? do you have seriously uprated brakes? do you have an after market ecu? do you have uprated intercooler piping? do you have an uprated top mount or front mounted intercooler?
Lots to this modifying lark isnt there

The standard TD05 is good for upto 350bhp anyway.
You'll also need....
Front mount intercooler,
Induction kit,
550 injectors (or may be able to use 440's with a fuel pressure regulator)
Walbro 255 fuel pump,
Aftermarket ecu (+ mapping), eg Apexi power fc or if you can get hold of a "Scoobyecu"
Full decat exhaust,
Ported headers and uppipe.
All of the above can be found second hand on this forum in the forsale section!

That should see you very near to 350bhp, but then as already said, your gonna need to get better brake, suspension etc.

Also an oil cooler might be a good buy if you have no intentions of getting the engine internals replaced for forged items.

Is your car a wagon? If so the yes it will have a TD04.
The TD04 is only good for upto 280 bhp so it will definatly have to go.

Yes a 2.5 system is fine, its actually better to have the 2.5 system unless going for mega power.

Yes the TD04 and 5 look very similar

Look at the housing.

Inlet manifold is off in the pic above, mind. It's just to give you an idea of where to look.

All early saloon WRX's had TD05's, NONE had a td04 standard.

Front mount & De cat and remap got me to 343bhp on a standard TDo5 in a 95 classic wrx which im told is pretty much its limit, then you have to worry about gearbox cos mine went pop at that power.
There are loads of turbos out there that will reach 350bhp with room to spare, the tdo5 will be working its bollocks off at 350bhp so 320bhp will be more stress free me thinks.

Try FMIC,AIR FILTER,DECAT, UPGRADED HEADERS,550cc INJECTORS,LIGHTWEIGHT FLY,UPRATED CLUTCH, MD321H 400BHP RATED TURBO,REMAP 350bhp NO PROBLEM WITH ROOM TO SPARE, THEN HOLD ON BUT DONT FORGET YOUR BOX
