Would this be a good time to remind everyone about how some magazine (evo i think) said that scooby owners were perhaps a little ****......
methinks this could be just what they were talking about.

If the SIDC's aim is to make sure scooby owners get places on their trackdays, then they are generally doing the right thing. But surely the last thing that anybody wants to happen is the exclusion of certain great characters because they sell their scooby and buy something more powerful/interesting or dont own one at all.
Also surely if you are allowed to be a member of the SIDC without actually owning one, then you should be able to take advantage of all benefits.

Dingy,
Read my reply on other Dono thread.
Meanwhile, yes, your track ettiquete is perfect, admirable in fact. I have never seen you do anything dangerous and in fact have noticed you to be over cautious at times, which is excellent.
But why be competitive? We are all out there to have fun at minimum risk to ourselves and others. Dare I say it, if you were to write your car off (god forbid) would you be terribly upset by it? I certainly would.
I really don't have anything against you and I don't thing your a tit
Please don't take my points personally. They are aimed at a much wider audience, saying no names. Harj

Stef,
I have heard that certain members and their cars have been banned from SIDC events.
Can you confirm this is true and the reasons behind it.
If any members have been banned I would be interested to hear their side of the story too.
If this is all just untrue rumour, I apologise.
Thankyou.

Craig,
I was one of the people that had a conversation with Stef about this. I hope we won't be totally banned, but I was under the impression (correct me if I misinterpreted Stef), that because of the "competitive banter" on the BBS following the track days, this was believed to be putting off potential Scooby owning SIDC members from taking part. In view of this, we (certain Non-Scooby owning SIDC members), will no longer be able to book on a first come first serve basis and would have to wait until closer to the day to see if there are any spaces left. Although I can see the point to this to a certain extent, I feel somewhat victimised that it is not being applied across the board (as in to all Non-Scooby owning SIDC members or even those that aren't members such as the Skylines, Evos, Exige's etc, which will still be allowed to book up as normal), it is only a "certain few" that won't. The reason I am obviously upset is not only have I been a member of the SIDC for almost 2 years, but that I am being excluded from trackdays that I personally believe are the best in the country from an organisational / friendship point of view, and I go along because I like meeting up with the usual rabble and mixing in with everyone. I don't believe ANYONE has ever had course to complain about my track etiquette, as I always pull well out of everyone's way when I am on a warming up / cooling down lap and so am quite frankly amazed (and extremely dismayed) that no-one has just sent me an e-mail saying "tone down the banter a bit", but has instead felt it necessary to possibly exclude me from taking part in my favourite hobby. It is hard enough finding track days that are competitively priced as it is, let alone ones that have the support (Tyres NH) and comeradary (sp?) of the SIDC ones.
If it turns out that Stef was just being polite and trying to be diplomatic and that we are actually TOTALLY excluded, I wouldn't know what to say. I would be extremely disheartened that people felt they had the right to take such a big part of my life away from me, for what seem petty reasons. All I can say is, in this day and age of constant clamp downs on everything that is good / fun, PLEASE don't exclude me from these track days, as although there are others, I know where I would want to be and that is on track surrounded by sensible people and friends that have been gained over the last two years - not stuck up strangers.
Best regards

If this is true then I am severly dissaponited, not only for you but for us as well. It has always been interesting to have the cosworth v subaru competition alive and well, but I have never considered it truly competitive. Perhaps I am a bad judge of character but the fact that you have a 22b.com sticker on your ford suggests to me that any competitive banter is entirely on a mutual respect basis.
I can uncderstand if your antics were dropping parts of your car all over the track, not to mention fuel and oil, and endangering other track users, but is this the case?
I dont think so.

A bit OTT isn't this?
I would recommend that "certain" non-scoob owning SIDC members actually BE invited to these events. Banter is banter & I can't see the benefit of having scoob only track days. Part of the fun for me is cadging lifts off other machinery to see how it compares.
Next thing, we (certain scoob drivers) will be banned from RSOC National Day
Where does it end?

PTMW, as you will come to the RSOC NAT DAY and none of us will care, what car you drive, as its good to compare things...
But if some cars don't get allowed on the SIDC events then i'm sure the RSOC will feel simular....and keep it all RS's on the track.
And considering the price this year i don't think that would be a problem.
Just my views, not that of the RSOC, as its difficult to come accross with just words, and no expression.....
Most of my comments are to cause a bit of wind up banter......
MY car is **** i know.....who cares

Well if Mike and Dingy are to be banned where does it stop, will JF/TypeR be banned too ? I don't know Dingy well enough (can't keep up !) But I do know Mike has track ettiquette as good as anyone driving a Scoob
If Mike, Dingy et al are to be banned I will seriously consider my membership of the SIDC. I thought it was an enthusiasts club not a proctologists convention
Should members not be consulted on matters such as these ?

But this doesn't make any sense !
The 'non Scooby owning SIDC members' in my experience have as much if not more track etiquette as the rest of us ?
I can't understand it !
It seems very much like victimisation to me. Surely this has not been suggested by anyone who has been on track !!! what is being implied here just simply is not the case !!
I've got a bloody good mind to cancel my SIDC membership and not join again. I sincerely hope this is all gossip / there is a good reason for it

OK,
Have just come off the phone to Stef - the impression I got is this:
SIDC is obviously the Impreza Drivers Club.
1700 members and heavily oversubscribed track events.
Questions have been raised for sometime over the inclusion of non imprezas on SIDC trackdays.
Subaru owners will be given priority on track days over non subaru owning SIDC members.
Personally, I think this is a great shame - I much prefer the banter/atmosphere etc that a varied track day brings.
So, perhaps the solution is if we can't get on SIDC days, we do Donington Trackzone etc.
Which is probably what most of us have been on before.
I don't necessarily agree with what the SIDC are saying, but in other ways I do. They are catering for the Impreza owners first and foremost. I don't think we can argue with that.
So how about all you lot that agree and would like to attend Trackzone etc days, mail me, we'll get a list together and see how that goes. Especially, Mike R, Dingy, etc etc.
Well be the NIOSIDC - non impreza owning sidc members. Except me of course. And any other impreza owners who wants to come along..

If you apply this logic, then we exclude an Exige, a Honda Civic Type R, Evo VIs, Skylines, ...
Sounds a tad harsh, but I can only see one side of the story on here. I *think* that I know where SIDC are coming from, but perhaps it would be more sensible to emphasise the "it's not a race" aspect of track days?
Discussion of "racing" could get us in trouble with the tracks, the insurers and all sorts of things - it probably isn't a wonderful idea.
Just my unwanted twopenneth.

i agree with some of that.......but not all
i was told that cars with more horse power won't be allowed, the scooby's owners getting priority is fine by me........as it should be.....
In joined mainly because of the track days, but i do have a very healthy interest in scoob's, but this doesn't come accross i know. I will have one quite soon, but won't be changin my views on this, as i feel this is a poor side to the club.
I don't want to cause anymore hassle so i won't be attending any more SIDC events, even if i own a scoob cause this is not right in my opinion. Fun it should be not as serious as its starting to be.

Blowdog,
That is b0llox.
It is not purely down to bickering. Or banter.
2 other things:
1 . You said you may be hanging up your "racing gloves" So what's the problem if you're not going anyway.
2. High powered cars may not be allowed - so you're not affected anyway

Craig,
Then I have been mis-led, for people have stated in other threads that the events have become too competitive. I really don't think that they have decided to ban certain people because their cars are 'too powerful'. That is bollox. I actually agree with what SIDC are saying to some extent, but then that needs clarifying, so as I said before, we need to know exactly what they are saying.
Secondly, regarding me doing trackdays, I would like to be the judge of that and not have the decision made for me thank you very much.

Even the word "Racing" seems to have upset some muppets of which I don't know why as in a real situation. When your on track and someone you know (Friend) comes up behind you, isn't it natural and normal to have some fun with them and try to pull away from them? This is exactly what Dingy and I were doing but it seems as though some people think we left the start grid lined up together and then went ***** out for 1 hour
I think its a shame if the SIDC do this as im looking forward to kicking John Felsteads butt on track soon
if this happens it will get boring and lonely.

my twopence...
As these events are "SIDC" priority should go to Scoobs - the SIDC organisers would not be doing their job otherwise (after all SIDC = Subaru Impreza Drivers Club) - don't think many would complain about that.
Saying that it is much more fun (both on and off track) when other types of car are there (EVO, Civic R, Skyline, Cossie, Westie etc). Gets a bit boring driving with just scoobs all day + most of these guys are also happy to give passenger rides all day long
IMHO - In general the driving of the non-scoobs is of a high standard. Some of the scarier moments (for me anyway) have come from other Scoob drivers. Other interesting point is that the driving etiquette on Sunday was the best I've seen for a long time and the banter after was just that: banter
Remember also that Rob is on hand to send people home if they are driving dangerously
I would not like to be an organiser having to make these tough decisions (they do a great job for the club BTW) but there must be a way of resolving this (eg. ?% of cars max can be non-scoobs?)
Rich.

This is absolutley stupid, if you have joined the club then you should be allowed on. The SIDC were quick enough to take your money out ya pockets in the first place!!!! They should feel privledged that other people wanna join. How many non scooby cars ran at Donno........percisely...it's hardly a MAJOR issue is it!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Mike R and Cem for at least having the decency to wait and hear both sides of the story before ranting and raving. To everyone else, please e-mail me and I will gladly arrange for your membership fee to be refunded.
I am disappointed that some of you see fit to jump on a bandwagon that had no need to be even rolling. I will clarfiy the matter here, before stating the official policy in a new thread.
In response to the nature of some of the posts in the Donno thread, I mailed Dingy and suggested that the tone was being seen by many people as being slightly 'over competetive'. Banter is one thing, but some of the posts were taking things a tad too far, and may give off the wrong impression to those people that didn't know him personally, perhaps even putting them off attending future events. He was NOT banned, nor was any indication given that he may be.
The club has also been told by BHLG that non-Scoobs will not be allowed at SIDC events on their circuits, in line with their new policy. One make car clubs mean one make. We are still discussing this with them which is why no official statement had yet been made.
I made it clear to Dingy that as this subject was already high in the clubs minds, he wasn't really helping matters. That's it.
This then leads to this topic sprouting up, and the numerous other posts on the Donno thread.
I spoke to both Craig and Dingy this morning and thought that I had clarified the matter.
Craig seems to have understood, but by the nature of Dingy's continued posts, he hasn't.
So be it.
Please see new thread for the club's official stand.
Dingy, your membership fee will be refunded, as requested, as will anyone else's that feel the club is being unfair. Perhaps you should hear both sides of the story in future though?
Regards.
Stef.

Stef, i did understand everything you said and it was clear to me, i don't agree with all of it but fair points.
Your email stated.
'any cars with more horse power than a scoob will be banned PERIOD'
So that says to me i'm banned, unless i can't read, I forwarded the Email to Jay with the Escort Cosworth who was also think he would be banned, and like you said on the phone it was for my benifit. It Doesn't read like that at all.
You also said i was Racin, with who ?
I did get what you said on the phone but at the end of the day in your email you said i was banned, and didn't say otherwise on the phone. So what am i surposed to think. I am one of the nicest people you will meet and have a powerful car, which is why its interestin....but i guess that don't really matter now.
