Stripped out owners?
Hi guys, just a quick one. Like many of you i want my car to be quicker all the time, keeps me interested in it and keeps a big smile on my face. Anyway, last few days ive decided to get a bit of weight out of my type r, i started with takeing off the aircon, then out came the spare wheel, jack and all my tools, next was the boot carpet and boot liners and ive also taken off all the sound matting off the boot floor and tonight pulled the back seats out to remove all the matting from under there aswell. I carnt believe how much quicker the car seems to feel just from that little lot, is it my mind playing tricks with me or does it realy make that much differance. I was planning on putting my rear seats back in once id finished takeing all the sound matting off but now im haveing second thoughts about putting them back in right now. Just wanted too see if anyone else had done this and found a big improvement?

Do 4 or five runs in the car. Get a mate to put two car batteries in the boot on a couple of the runs but don't tell you if they are in or not. Make sure they won't move or make a noise so you can't tell if they are there or not. Do the runs and see if you notice the difference.
Taking stuff out makes a difference. If you can notice 30kgs or so I'm not so sure.

cheers for the replys guys. Yeh some pics of your stripped out cars would be great. I will get some pics of what im upto tommrow. This weekend the carpet is comeing up to remove the rest of the sound matting. Ive only done the boot and under the back seats and already have half a bag full that weighs a good little bit. The back seats i will more than likely put back in as they aint all that heavy but i do think its made a differance. with everything ive taken out, spare wheel, tools and the rest of it id say so far ive removed a good 60kg from it.

Back the same, with alloy firewall to the boot for fuel system. All door cards, grey plastic out too ready for this weekend, but cards and door plastics go back in for day to day use after.

i stripped out the backend of my 97 sti. and admit it felt faster but thats because of noise change. i could hear the tyres on the road and the exhaust more. and this in turn with knowing its stripped made it feel faster!

Hi, have sat playing with calculater changing weights every time and wot I can work out is 4 every 30kg
U remove from car u improve times by 0.2 of a second. It was a much bigger improvement
If u increased the break by the same amount. Hope that's of some use. Cheers
