Question POLL WHAT TYRE's ARE BEST FOR A SCOOBY

I have a had 4 Subaru's and now own a MY06 Type20

i have had 3 sets of Tyos RE070's on the T20 and recently had some 18 Toyo T1R's. My great handling T20 has become an understeering tyre squealing wreak

To be fair to the Toyo's T1R they don't tramline, medium grip and very predictable safe tyre IMHO

So what tyres do you lot reckon are best compromise for both Track and Road )

Pzero asymetrics 9/10 track 8/10 price 7/10
P6ooo 18"s road 8/10 track 8/10 price 6/10

P2's 18"s road 8/10 track 8/10 price 8/10

Bridgestone (dire tramling due to hard sidewalls)

SO2's 17"s road 9/10 track 7/10 price 8/10
RE040's 17"s road 7/10 track 8/10 price 6/10
RE050's 17"s road 8/10 track 9/10 price 6/10
RE070's 17"s road 9/10 track 10/10 price 8/10

Toyo's (no tramlining but no sidewall strenght)

Goodyear (Good in wet but didn't last long in the Dry)

Why do you score the RE-070 so low on price ? £105 a corner isn't bad, IMHO

R888's all day for me, no contest, I've watched club members destroy a Goodyear/Ningtong in seven laps, my last track day only shaved 1mm off my R888's.

I was thinking of these Goodyears (F1 Asymmetric type) for my car when I need some;

on my newage car i have gone from toyo t1rs which were good,to vredesteins which were great,to toyo r888s which i have to say totally transformed the car.i would choose the r888s all day long.

The yoko's aint bad but tbh, you should be looking at the vredesteins sessanta's, forget the goodyears, these are just better by far, and as the toyo's dont agree with your car (they are not bad tyres, just severely outclassed here) your best giving them a miss.
Still my favourite are the RE070's, even with their little downsides, not much will keep up with you in the dry and take the abuse on track also

What about Pirelli PZero Rosso.

I have these on my S60R (235/40/18) in XL guise and they are fabulous, a small amount and I mean small amount of tram-lining, but the grip they give and the confidence they give me behind the wheel is really good and not just in the dry.

pretty much what I was thinking

There is also weight issues between the lardy Newage and lighter Classics What may be brill on a Classic might struggle with sidewall strength when on a Newage. IMHO

Michelin pilot sports are a little (lot) expensive but they are superb, wet weather on the track they are mind blowing for a road tyre and in the dry just to give you an idea against the toyo they gave me a good 30% extra grip and dont let go on grip after 7 laps :-) .

Had the Michelin pilot sports MPS2's 18's fitted to my Bugeye STi PF-7's agree were good but didn't have chance to try them on track.

IIRC they were a dual compond tyre having harder edge The MPS1's were an attrociuos tyre on a scoob IMHO

I run the mps2 but i guess because you have used them on the road you couldn't fault them? On the track there are better dry weather tyres but its a shame you didn't get chance to use yours on the track, as an all round road and track tyre they are very good, the toyo t1r is a budget tyre and on the road i allways thought they were ok but after taking them to the track :-( boy did they suck.

Have re070's just now and can't stand the tramlining, fortunately they need changed so i'm fitting eagle f1 asymetrics on monday.

Goodyear F1 Asymetrics are fantastic in both the wet and dry. I can't believe how much grip they provide.

Fantastic in the wet - good in the dry - be surprised if they stood up to track abuse though.
I run them in the winter and 070s in the summer/track.
If I could only use one tyre, I would go for the Assymetrics.
I have used the PS2s a fair bit and reckon the Assymetrics to be as good, but better wearing.
It really is a matter of horses for courses. You can not expect a tyre that gives good grip in near zero wet conditions to perform well on the fifth lap of a track stint in the middle of summer.
The tramlining of 070s doesn't bother me, but it is best to have two hands on the wheel if you are on a B road and another car is coming the other way

Anyone tried the Silverstone range?, Richard at Tractive is using them and has very impressive results, i had a look over them and seem to me a cross between A048/R888. A 225/40/17 is circa £150 a corner, not bad considering Tracktive using these more often

Think am gonna try a set out when shredded these 888 which are no longer available from normal/usual suppliers

Having said all that, my good buddy Mak24seven, with his MPS2 worked wonders in 1" of water at Cadwell last week, i was amazed in all honesty! Even though under powered! he he.

I'm trying Hankook RS2. Just running them in. I wanted a road/track all rounder. Anyone else had any experience with them? they have a reinforced wall so they are stiffer and are a bit 'crashy' in feeling over the R888's that were on the car. But R888's would have been £240 more a set and wear out fair too quickly for my pockets - although they are gret on the track! - i'll probably miss 'em.

My brilliant handling T20 with only a slight hint of understeer fitted T1rs and became a tyre squealing wreck

Ultra important found Front 34 & Back 32 best set up for me but it a "Personal Prefference" thing

First time I ran RE070's on the track at donington by 3 laps car was handling like a bag of sh1te checked pressures n/s/F 52, o/s/f 48, n/s/r 46, o/s/r 45 put back to normal pressures and car handled like a dream Most get them filled with Nitrogen

vred ultrac = very good tyre wet and dry

toyo = t1s was a good tyre t1r not so good PX4 weird tread and not rated to highly

yoko p2s= lovely looking tyre very good in dry can be a tad skittish in the wet

toyo 888s = excellent road and track tyre good in dry conditions , not great in wet + expensive

reo70s = alround god tyre nice patern good grip and great on track but still up there on price .

goodyear eagle f1 = nice tyre but **** me they wear out quick.
goodyear eagle f1 assim = nice pattern reasonable money and are pretty good from the feedback ive had

pirelli p6000 . old patern not really suited for high performance cars but nice to driv on for normal road use

pirelli pzero neros = excellent tyre and good on the money to nice pattern and great road holding porche use em on most of their range

michellin ps2s = great tyre but a re-mortgage is needed to get a full set lol


yingyang chenshan rosava beijingtyrecorp.= all good untill u wanna go round a corner or stop good for a cheap fix

I haven't tried enough to vote, but will say the RE0-50 is the worst I've tried. Have had two sets. One on a brand new V8 UK PPP Sti and another on a Sti wagon. Violent tram lining, poor dry road performance, and worrying in wet and worse road conditions. Changed both times to F1's and 'cured'.

I swore by F1's for all 6 previous Impreza's. That is until my 7th was fitted with Tr1's. Have been very impressed so far (1K miles on them), and would buy again

agree with the reo50s had alot of mixed reviews on them . the golf gtis seem to scrub them in under 8k and are quite pricey , plus event tyres have made an exact copy of these for under 60 quid and last just as long for a spirited driver lol

hey guys DEFO not pirreli p zero rosso my friend put these on his litchfield supplied 2006 ra spec c nurburgring ed car .. straight away noticed were not any good next day pushed it on a corner he had done everyday for yrs resulting in the ra wrapped round a lamppost .. there were no issues wiv the toyo t1r s or the bridgstone re070 s RIP vx55pfj .. they ended a really nice cars glory days ...he said he felt sidewalls fold pressures were correct they were just rubbish tyres, everyone who went in car said same thing .
