I did ask them this, and the guy phoned up the underwriters there and then. You'd expect Subaru Privilage to know about the new WRX.

I've told the salesguy at Wilsons of Romford about this and hopefully someone at IM can sort it out because it is just going to put off buyers big time - especially when tesco figure out that they are being used as a cheap source of car insurance for scoob fanatics.

anyone know why the MY01 is really hard to get insurance for? I have a clean license, 27, garaged, clean license blah blah and subaru privilege are quoting £2353 for a wrx wagon my01. :-o

for a slower car than the outgoing my00 and the fact that the glossy says it is much safer - I just don't get it?

Tesco have quoted 1353 which is a bit more expected. (I live in E14 which is number 77/99 area loading)

Sounds about right for the area!!?? You could also check with Pete Croney, he's got one (so presumably he's insured it ) - however, it's modded already so the figure may not be as comparable as a standard one.

Matt.

You know, I thought about this same issue when I first heard that IM was going to rename the car from Turbo 2000 to WRX. i thought that not only would insurance companies automatically assume that it's a Jap import (hence the large premium) but I also thought it's going to confuse the public. Joe Bloggs is going to see loads of WRX's in Autotrader and may think that as the local Subaru dealer has WRX's that the ones in autotrader are pukka cars, thus the punter gets a shock when he tries to get insurance or service it at a subaru dealership.

IM obviously wants to stop the grey import trade, but causing confusion to a client base is not the ideal way to do it.

Maybe they should just get the damn STi's euro approved ( I know, I know, it's not as easy as that!)

Funny thing insurance. The figures are totally based on statistics and when a new model comes out they have less info to base the pricing on. The new WRX insurance will probably be inflated from lots of pay outs on the out going model of Scooby.I was looking at insurance for the new (Mk 4) Astra. Couldn't believe how cheap the quotes were even for the swiftish ones, presumably because the mk 3 was a complete granny mobile and never saw much action. Although ironically the mk 3 was much more expensive to insure because the stats were based on the mk 2 which was a rude boy car.

I've just tried privilege's website (www.privilege.com) and got a quote of £950 for an Impreza WRX AWD (2001 model year) I think they've recently updated the site, because a couple of weeks ago it didn't have the new car listed.

I also compared this to a quote for the old model turbo and the price came up exactly the same.

You could also try Admiral's internet only site

I just got quoted 1395 (about normal for my area) from the privilege website with the same details. so obviously phoning them up incurs a 1000 pound penalty?!

I won't tell if you don't!
