Default " OIL IN HEADER TANK"

IM SHOCKED TO FIND "OIL" RESIDUE IN THE COOLING SYSTEM HEADER TANK, DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE???????????THE CAR IS AN STI 07 2.5 . THERE IS ALSO OIL FILM UNDER THE RAD CAPS TOO.. I HAVE IT BOOKED INTO THE DEALERS ON THURSDAY TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND OUT WHAT WRONG.

DO ANY OF YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE???????

Doesn't give good impressions that, Generally a sign of head gasket failure, Cylinder heads or cracked block Etc, Most likely Number 1

Yup... Someone may have added some oil to the cooling system by mistake.

Oil in the cooling system is vertualy un heard of in Subaru's... Certainly on a car that is only 2 yrs old!!

At least you have the piece of mind that Subaru will be paying the bill, as if it is the engine at fault, then it could run into thousands.

i thought i had oil in my header tank. it was a pinky brown paste (i had pink coolant). The cap would get covered in the stuff very quickley and all the pipes and expansion bottle was discoloured. turns out i had used an organic coolant from halfords by mistake. i changed the coolant to a non organic and the pink paste has gone.

theres a brown oily sludge in the header tank and an oily film under the rad caps.........any ideas ?
