Default Which would use more fuel - Classic Wagon or 330i Touring?

I was going to buy a BMW 330I Touring but am thinking of saving some cash and buying a classic wagon instead. I need something practical but still with a bit of poke and quite happy to have a UKer rather than an import.

So which would use more fuel? Every 3 months or so we have to trek up to Ponefract to wifes folks and I would like to be able to use my car for a change. We usually take the wifes as she usually ends up with the boring diesel baby barge car (much to her dismay) other than that we don't really travel too far outside the shire, said Bilbo

PS - wagon I quite like is ECUTEK mapped but only very basic mods. Still has cat I believe.

I'd say uk wagon will be more frugal than a 330i.

My my00 wagon is good on fuel, better than an e46 328ci ihad so I'd say better than a 330i for sure.

Also when I had my wagon remapped it was even better (when cruising on motorway)

My 330i sport does 27 day to day and just over 30 on a run.

My MY99 wagon, with 265 bhp never did better than 24
