Question Remember when Top Gear ....

.... bought some old Supercars and tested them on a rolling road?

I cannot remember the exact numbers, but, a 300 BHP car was now standing at about 150 BHP ... just because it was old and worn.

I have a MY00 Impreza Turbo Wagon - started out at 215 BHP, but I believe that the Wagons had slightly more than the stated figure, it 'seems' like it still has those 215 'Official' Horses pulling it .......

I wonder what it really has left?

No silly answers - this is serious!

The MY00 had slightly less than the stated figure I think you'll find due to the wondrous AE802 ECU fitted. The previous versions AE800/1 would do 215bhp but thanks to some tweaks to the base maps in these ones they were more like 200bhp due to the even more rich fuel map and cr*ppy progressive boost control map.

When mine had the full-decat, Green panel filter, and AE801 ECU it was making nearly 240bhp on the rolling road and that was heading up for 100k miles on the engine so no loss of power for me.

Yeah, they were 70's machines were they not?

Built with older technology...and in those days, pretty optimistic bhp claims.

The cars on Top Gear were probably on carburetors and they certainly had distributors so there is a lot to be lost if the timing is out and the fuelling is wrong. Cars like that needed a regular tune up to ensure that everything is spot on. Modern cars with their fuel injection systems, ecu's and coil packs shouldn't lose power, the only real place you will lose power is with dirty or worn injectors.

I'd expect an Impreza to be pretty much bang on the power

i just bought a 95 wrx import wagon about a month ago, think they were about 210bhp when new and it went on the rolling road at scoobyclinic last week and produced 203.3 bhp which i dont think is too bad for a 14 year old car.

A friend's 02 WRX was way down on power due to a partially blocked cat in the up-pipe, once removed it was back to it's healthy self.
