GX in to a Turbo, is it possible?
I Purchased a bug eye imprezza about five months and I have almost finnished the exterior.
Photo below:
I am only 24 so insurance on an WRX is a problem at the minute but I turn 25 soon so want to get power to go with the looks. Does any one know If you can just add a turbo to an existing gx engine or will I have to get a WRX engine.
If you can what parts would I need to get fitted or this. I am aware that the standard gx brakes won't cope with more bhp but I planned on fitting some STI/bigger brakes shortly. The wheels may have to go for this though.
Thanks in advance

Anything is possible if you have the cash. While you can add a turbo, its not as simple as that. It'll be far easier and cheaper to find a WRX, probably cheaper to insure. You could have the looks without the go for now, save £££ for a year or too until insurance is more palatable. Bob

yup, you can fit a turbo engine into your gx, but.. your going to need to spend alot of money, basicly you would need everything off the turbo model to covert it.
In my opinion, you should avoid it! it's going to cost you way to much to do and your not see that money when it comes to selling it. Stick with your gx for the mean while and wait untill your insurance drops for a turbo and get one.
Thats my advice anyway

As above.
It would cost more to convert your car to WRX specification that it would be worth. Then, even if it was at a standard WRX spec, you'd be paying modified car insurance. Save your ££££££ and get a WRX later. Nice car BTW.

Yup good move, Im sure you wont have any problem selling on your bug to another youngster as from that pic you have made a good job.
I got my STI new when I was just about 25 and the insurance was only about £1200 but things have changed in the last few years.
All the best and get saving

only think worth doing to it rather than buy a wrx is if you plan to go pig powere where you'd be replacing alot fo the standard parts anyway. no point in paying the cash to change to a wrx or sti just to dump all the uprated parts anyway. if your just aiming to wrx or sti level then sell it buy the proper one
