1/4 Mile Classic times question
I have just been checking the performance data recorded by respected car magazines (eg. Autocar) when these cars were new and am surprised how quick they were in completely standard trim. Would you expect to match these figures today in an unmodified car? Some people seem to spend a fair bit on modifying just to dip into the high 13 secs bracket.
Here are some of the figured recorded by these magazines:
UK Turbo 2000 saloon (208bhp / 201 lb ft): 14.7 secs @ 92mph: 0-60mph 5.8 secs; 0-100mph 18.7 secs
UK Turbo 2000 Wagon (215bhp / 214 lb ft): 14.2 secs @ 87mph: 0-60mph 5.3 secs; 0-100mph not available
P1 (277 bhp / 253 lb ft): 13.9 secs @ 105mph: 0-60mph 4.7 secs; 0-100mph 12.3 secs
22B (280bhp / 268 lb ft): 13.5 secs @ 101mph: 0-60mph 4.7 secs; 0-100mph 13.1 secs
I guess an unmodified 277bhp STi 4 door classic would be pretty close to the 2 door models mentioned above.
Any opinions?

you dont have to spend anything to get an unmodified STI into the high 13s. we took an unmodified UK Sti Bugeye to Jurby in IOM a few years back. best we could do was 13.79 @ 99 mph. that was with no (and i mean no) mechanical sympathy. Any car doing the quarter in less than 15 seconds is a fast car.
if you want any faster then yes you will have to spend some money. It is a law of diminishing returns though. Low 13s not much money, low 12s a few thousand, low 11s quite a few thousands, low 10s.......how deep are your pockets.

to get some idea of what sort of power you need to be running to get some of these times. standard jap import classic is about 1250KG.

A remap should see low 13's hopefully, then like you say to get into the 12's thats when the ££££££ start to mount up
