Is a 97 Type R classed as an ej20?

i know there are numbers after the ej20 though...

Type R refers to the body style............. It used the Retna 2 door bodyshell

If you drop the "Type R" from the OP then it reads..

"Is the 97 classed as an ej20" ....... which doesn't make sense..so I guess the question was about the "Type R" bit
