Default Newbie advise plz ?

hi all.....just put a deposit on a 54 plate sti ppp with 42k on the clock.....car drove great, handled well and pulled like a train !

only gripe is that the box felt a bit notchy, all gears selected but with a noticable "snick" so to speak...

is this normal ?

Some feel notchy (UK ones mainly), never noticed that on my JDM but there is a slight difference in the gearbox components
Should feel alot better than a classic 5 speed though

Both my newages feel notchy, you learn to love it. I have never had a newage gear box issue so far and the Hawkeye is now on 138k!

It's always worth holding back and saving a few quid extra to step up to an 05 car, as they benefited from having revised Spec C geometry (longer wheelbase and wider track), DCCD-A (active centre diff), inverted struts, and I think HID's and sweep dials. JDM cars had all these except the geometry change from 03 onwards, as well as a stronger, more powerful and more tuneable engine and twin scroll turbo. You're much better with a JDM car IMHO.

i thought pretty much the same when i first got my hands on one, also a couple of other little quirks but nothing to be concerned about, plenty more torque than your standard road car so driving is a tad diffrent than most but puts a smile on my face every day. ps, lots of people get caught out in the wet when new, beware, they can bite.

cheers. . .good advise.....im used to goin round on tip toes....my rev 3 mr2 turbo taught me that.....dam useless in the wet..... i think the notchyness of the gear selection is just a subaru charicteristic. . . i didnt struggle to engage the gears i just had to force them in a little. . will prob improve when its nice and warm...... almost had a straight cut feel without the whining noise if you know what i mean.... ?
