What is your maximum speed newage/classic with mods ??
hi all just doing a bit of research and was wondering what the maximum speed people have clocked in their modified cars and if their is any difference in top end for the classic/newage.
i'll start the ball rolling i run a classic with a 2.1cdb and a uk 6 speed gearbox and recently on a disused runway mine went off the clock at 160mph (not on the road of course). i've now fitted a set of sti clocks that go up to 180mph and am going to have another go.
i'm interested in top speeds of 2.0, 2.1, 2.35 and 2.5 blocks. i'm thinking it is more down to the gearbox than the engine.
has anyone modded their gearbox at all to improve ?
thanks

Arf's car does 160 in fifth gear....
At Elvington, mine is limited to 256 kph, or 156 mph. so no ***** waving here.
But it can get there rather swiftly.....

I have no idea what my 95 wrx can do , but it feels as if its too low geared to go that fast , does any one know what the top speed will be with a rev limit of 7500 on a 95wrx or know the gear ratios , cheers

Had my standard spec d up to 160 mph which may have had a little left ? Now with mods de cat, map, etc. but never tried, probably no faster top end would just get there a bit quicker

got a 97 uk spec, on a private road got up to 165 but had to slow down, sure i cud of easily hit 170, but now got a sti 3 v limited box in now as uk spec box expolded, can only do 155 now on same road but sure gets there hell of alot quicker

done 155ish alot but takes alot longer from 135 to 155 aswell as the front end gets very light over 140
doubt the car has much more in it
ps: my car is a V3 sti holding 1.3 bar on a mines ecu,,,,,,mapped for jap fuel too

Surely as somebody has mentioned it is all down to the gearing. So if somebody knows the gearbox ratios for each model then it should be know what the max mph is for those ratios?

how many of you have blown your "standard" engine up doing top speed runs? i did in my old car (repaired under warranty) i was told not to do(by several tuners) sustained speed in 5th and 6th, which i certainly dont do in the car i have now

ive held my car a few times at 145 to 150 for long periods of time and was fine though tbh i dont feel comfortable doing more than 130ish held these days as im worried im gonna melt the car

you still need the power to get to that speed aswell as the drag of the car too
you can gear a car for 400mph but it aint gonna do that when the cars the shape of a brick, has a huge rear wing with loads of drag,,,,, and lets not get talking about that bonnet scoop

I was just thinking that somebody with all the gear ratios for the different models could work out an approximate top speed. If two cars have the same gearbox but one has a hundred bhp more then they should both have the same top speed but the more powerfull one will get there quicker?

I did touch just over 160 on the Autobahn trying to keep up with a Carrera GT, he was gone so I slowed to 120ish for a few miles then saw him coming back onto the 'bahn after a quick stop
