done to death mate, look in the techniacl section but i would say for 400 a md321h would do the job but you will need all the supporting mods if you have not already got any ie injectors, clutch blah blah. polus your gearbox may not like it and go bang so a ppg or 6 speed conversion. also there are many mixed opinions on how strong the type r engine is, some say it will take 400 and other say its to much i was told that a 18g would be as far as you would want to go as that was at the top of its safe limit.

best of luck what ever you do

They wont run 400bhp, anything over 350 and your looking to start upgrading internals on the older STI engines, you could try 400bhp but it probably wont last long

When you say older, how old do you mean? v2/3/4?

Anything with a version, so all new age engines on STI's are considerably stronger than those on cars prior to that

Hmm, was gonna bolt a 321h or similar on my v5, i have all the supporting mods barring injectors. One way to find out if the standard internals will take it................... If it goes **** up i'll just have to go 2.1 or 2.5

thats the way i think a lot of people thend to go mate, plumb it all on and if or when the engine / gearbox goes then it get replced. i do understand that route but for me if i had the power to use i would want to be able to use it and not be too scared just incase something went bang. and also if the engine does go it can end up taking things out with it which in turn puts the cost of the build up, if it were me i would pop in the gearbox (if you have not already) and then save the funds for the build and have it all fitted at the same time and end up with one hell of a car
