Anyway, everyone knows fords get faster as they get older, the more bits drop off em, the lighter they get
At about 25 years they weight less than 1 of the old baked bean cans they used to make the bodywork.

... may be put into perspective with this. I was flicking thru an old copy of Car the other night, and found an article about a *road-legal* Citroen Xantia rallycross car, which holds the French championship. 700bhp from a 2.0 lump, 42psi boost, 4WD.
Car tested its acceleration as follows:
0-60: 2.55 seconds
0-100: 5.4 seconds
what's more, it hit 60 in just 112 feet (37 yards!) from rest. Now I'd like to have a go in that!

Might be worth posting this on the RSOC BBS, there is bound to be a quicker 2wd Cossie that handles better on there
