Default Premature disk wear?

I'm currently having my 2007 2.5 WRX serviced at 38,000 miles and have been told the front brake disks need replacing, as do the pads but these are the original pads i.e. the disks have worn out at the same time as the first pair of pads.

Has anyone heard of this happening? I wouldn't mind if I was hard driver and had gone through 2-3 sets of pads already, but this sounds very odd.

I was told the same at my 10,000 mile service, that they would both need doing at 20k. The 20k service is due shortly, but I am going to have a good look at them before it goes in.

They estimate whether it is likely to make it SAFELY to the next service.

38,000 isn't bad for a heavy car.

IMHO

At my MOT a couple of weeks ago the tester issued me with an advisory note concerning the wear on the front discs of my 03 STi, mainly on the inside faces. The problem was not thickness, mainly groove wear on the surface. This is at 32,400 miles, with original pads. (Already had DBA discs and DS2500's on order anyway!)

my 03 sti has done 40k on one set of discs and still going, ive changed the front and rear pads once so far. if you keep an eye on it, you'll be able to get more wear out of them.if you let the servicer change them early then you may lose out.
