Both the spotlights on my WRX have cracked lenses from stones.

Any recommendations for replacements?

 

The pro's will be along shortly, but I can recommend PIAA 80XT's. THey are driving lights.

 

UK specification WRXes don't have spotlights, they have front fog lights - two different things altogether.

Given that there's probably two days a year at most when front fog lights are actually any use to you (and the Subaru ones are crap even then), your first question is whether you even want to bother replacing them. You could simply get rid and fit covers to the apertures.

If you want to replace them, the cheapest option would be like with like and pick up some used ones cheap. If you want to replace them with something that'll actually improve the usability of the lighting on your car, swap them with some driving lights like the PIAAs already recommended.

 

If you replace the OE Fog lights with driving lights you MUST wire them to your main beam circuit not the fog one.

Driving lights must only be on with main beam & go off on dip.

 

I hadn't considered going the 'driving lamp' route before now, does make sense though. I had a Range Rover that was setup like that from the factory.

 

My P1 had driving lamps rather than fogs. Worked on main beam only.

 

Driving lamps are far more use than the effing pathetic front fogs. As Flat Eric says they do have to be wired so that they only illuminate with main beam but even that said, the difference they make is considerable. I've got the 90mm Hella HID kit on mine and they're amazing, albeit expensive.

The only issue you'd probably have with them, or a similar sized alternative, would be fitting them neatly on a newage. Aside from brackets and stuff, I don't think there's an equivalent of the P1-type "cover with a hole in it" available for the post-2001 cars, so if this is what you've got, the easiest alternative is probably an off the shelf 130mm kit like the PIAA one.

 

Yea, it is a 2004 Blob Eye Waggon and I really want the a simple replacement, so anything that fits the existing holes with no faff is perfect. Wiring into the Main beam circuit doesn't count as faff as I will get my mechanic mate to sort that side of things
