As long as you miss brum between 8-9am then you have no need to use it. The only real bottleneck is where m5 meets the m6, Avoid rush hour and it's not too bad though.

I have used both tbh on numourous times I have found the toll road better more relaxing cos its a fair drive down to cornwall, the only real problem would be the the A30 over bodmin moor if the traffics bad, depends how far down into cornwall you are going tho.

Actually, the roadworks on that part of the M6-->M5 are finished: BBC - Travel News - Motorways
You'll still get stuck on the M5: 50mph at Bromsgrove and also 50mph at Bristol - and teh Toll won't avoid those!

I did hear a rumour that because it's a privately owned highway it's not governed by the police? Obviosly bulls**t but made me think with never seeing coppers on there.
I'd use it everytime for the sake of a few quid! It makes a journey down south a lot easyer

I've seen plenty on there and pull speeders to. When I've been driving my own car on there, only ever seen 1, and hel left the TT and myself alone, mind you we were the only 3 cars on there!! (and all of us would have 3 - 6 points).

There are quite few unmarked police cars that patrol the midlands area of the M6; Usually dark grey or dark blue BMW 5-series.
And yes, people have been pulled on the M6 Toll for speeding.

The M6 Toll road cuts out junctions 4 to 12. You need J8 to join/leave the M5.
There is no point using it apart from there always being a queue from 10A (M54) down to 8 (M5).

Usually bypasses the bad bit (although doesn't always work during rush hour or at school kicking out times).
On a "really bad" day I've been known to jump of the A34 or A449 (although thats not usually any quicker - just feels like your making progress )

I very rarely use any other route now, for the sheer relaxation factor the toll road is worth the money, and TBH it is not expensive unless you going through it on a regular basis.

Takes you well out of it, stick to the M6.
I travelled down to Cornwall two weeks back passing through Brum at about 6am with no hassle. Returned on Friday morning and I won't be doing that again. The whole run from Bristol up was awful. Kept moving at about 65 average, but the traffic volume and dire driving of most made it a distinctly unpleasant experience. Overnight travelling for me in future !
