Default TD04L replacements?

Hi, how is everyone? Just joined the forum as i need a bit of info about TD04L turbo's off of older impreza's. I drive a 1994 Toyota Starlet GT running a forged engine, greddy emanage & a TD04L turbo kit amongst other things . Just wondering if there are any other turbos that fit directly onto the TD04L flange? Reason being ive blown my turbo and fancy something with a bit more power without having to change manifold etc again. Any help would be great

Try a VF28 from a P1 or an STi5/6, they are roller bearing turbos, so spool up almost as quickly as the TD04.
You could also try a TD05 but spool up would probably be a problem for you

I recently replaced my TD05 with another. Its quick off the line if you give it beans, and goes right thru til 6-7k, from a roll it'll start a little after 3k. Alot of people say the TD05 is very laggy but I think it offers alot of power right through but depends on how its driven too I guess! I have no idea how it would run on your Starlet mind.

Is the TD04 your running front entry? TD05's are more commonly 90 degree inlet so IF you went for one, you'd prob find it easier to get the front machined off...

Im thinking the VF30? Seems like what im after, i dont mind a bit of lag aslong as it isnt 5000rpm laggy, full boost by 4500rpm is fine with me VF30, uses the exhaust housing of a VF24, which is supposidly one of the faster spooling VF series turbos with the compressor off of a VF22, not majorly laggy but with good, mid-top end. Need to find one now, come fitted to the JDM V7 Subaru Impreza WRX STi so could be a pain to find.

Heres the spec of my Starlet & a couple of pics too

Is your TD04 from an Impreza, if not it may well have different glanges to the Subaru specific ones, so Subaru replacement options may not be any use to you at all!

Also the Subaru turbo's tend to run a relatively undersized turbine housing as the huge exhaust manifold volume we have results in a coller charge at the turbo, having said that as your engine is smaller capacity (1.3?) than our 2.0/2.5's that may be a benefit.

What power are you making, the TD04L -14T is good for about 280bhp in an Impreza although you'll need more boost for the smaller capacity I guess to make the same power, so perhaps something like the Andy Forrest Hybrid would be better suited to what you want as it reatins the spool characteristics of the TD04 but with more airflow/boost capability from the compressor.
