wrapped my ninja sports cat today with glassfiber exhaust heat wrap. my main concern came after driving the car for just over 5 mins. there was a bad burning smell and some smoke from under the bonnet which made me panic for a few seconds.

Completely normal, mine actually smelled quite nice burning in, like baked cakes. Fitted a new 3" downpipe on saturday myself. Did you soak the wrap in water first? If so the "Smoke" would just be the water burning off as steam.
