Do i need boost controller or ecu. boost creep.
Hello.
Just wondering how to rectify this slight issue, not 100% sure what is happening.
I have decatted with 3" bellmouth to a 3" back exhaust with a 2.5 restrictor in it to keep the top end power.
Now i have done this the boost is all over the place. Before it boosted to about 17.5 psi, not it boosts to 20psi and very occasionalyl 21 psi. Now this isnt a massive increase. However the way the pwoer is delivered is different. It feels like the turbo overspools and then slows down, so i suspect i get about a second or less ov everboost. You can feel the power increase and drop off with this.
I understand the jdm sti v4's have fairly capable boost controllers stock. So should this be happening? What do i need to fix this? I am upgrading the ECU to apexi, will i also need a better boost controller or wil the ECU be able to control this better?
Thanks
Chris

the ecu is seeing the overboost and pulling the boost back hence you feel it die off a little and then come back etc..
the Apexi is capable enough to control the boost
Did two yesterday in fact.

I had this problem...
Its already running an Apexi power Fc anyway, i was getting really bad boost creep and kept hitting the Power Fc fuel cut.
Changed the solenoid, and it is still creeping, but no where near as bad as before.
So it could be the solenoid thats gubbed. Or if you have an uprated turbo it might be wanting to boost quite high so need a better boost controller to pull the duty down at high revs.

don't get me wrong you can use a boost controller but the powerfc is more than capable of controlling the boost assuming everything else is good to go
