Question Green Impreza P555 JDB

Hello people, I have just bought my first scooby!!
Its a green turbo 2000 uk model.

I have a few questions, When started up from cold there is a slight knock at very low revs but goes when revved, this dissapears after a few minutes when the engine is warm, Anybody who knows nothing about cars wouldnt hear it but i did. Any ideas, Ive been told by the guy its because the layout of the engine they get piston slap when cold but would like to verify..

Also, He says the plate on it P555 JDB is a good plate... Dont know wether its original or not but wonder whats so special about it. Anyway, I got it for a grand, Its got subaru decals all over it and needs some work to get it on the road agin but the engine is strong. Anybody spotted it lancaster ways??

Lastly, There was only a small amount of petrol in it when i test drove it, I floored it in 1st to the redline and shifted to second, it died for a split second then powered back up. The guy says this is because there is only a drop of fuel in the tank... Is this what would happen, I presume so but need verifying.

Sorry for the drabble. Thanks people and peace.

hink you need to get that car looked at asap, mine did that and it ended up being a new block hope its not the case for you take it to a rolling road and get them to have a look. check your dipstick and oil cap does it have a creamy fluid?? cheers may just be somethinkg stupid like the boost solinoid could besomethink more serious.

the 555 on your plate is a refrence to subarus raley history take a look and you will get it.there are limited editon 555 imprerzas you could sell the plate

No its boosting fine and the engine is very strong. Are you reffering to my "missing a beat" problem if so. I think it was running on fumes as the tank was nearly dry!!

Oil is fine, Checked it approx 6 times when viewing and after test-run. Golden syrup!!

i think you have encountered the old piston slap mate . mine does it , my previous car did it . its common on 97-98 uk models

as for the cut out ,check the oil level . if its over filled it will cause the car to cut when boosting . also with minimal fuel it could happen to . give it a full tank and give it a good run . also check the boost solonoid isnt sticking .

nothing to really worry about mate , dont get put off by people saying ur engine is bolloxed , always check the simple things first .

Thats what it must be then... I mean, If it was a bearing or any major problem it wouldnt go when engine gets warm..? Why do these cars suffer piston slap? Is it purely because of the layout? Cheers guys.

i think it is a by product of the "low friction design", which can also mean slightly high oil usage

it is also exacerbated by people rebuilding engines using forged pistons, these tend to be designed to be fitted slighly undersize as they expand when hot (hence noise goes when hot)

its just the way it is until the oil warms up . something to do with the cylinder bore . my car sounds like a bucket of mails when i start it up in the morning . real bad but it goes as soon as it warms up . i wouldnyt worry bout it mate . if it was bigend failure u would know trust me . just do regular oil n filter changes every 4-5 k and u should be ok .
