Question

Importing a new WRX from Cyprus. Will a UK Scooby dealer honour the manufacturers warranty? The dealer in Cyprus is offering to sell a 3 year warranty for the car that normally is sold with secondhand cars.

I realise this topic has probably been covered before but I would be grateful for any advice

TIA

Stu

If the dealer is supplying the car with a 3yr insurance based warranty, Subaru UK will not honour it. They will however be happy to do the work, but only once it has been authorised by the warranty provider.

EU Imports have a warranty that is Subaru UK backed.

Could I ask what you're paying ? As it appears Trade Sales and tins are sourcing their cars there are they much cheaper than more favoured sources in EU ? Have they confirmed the car is UK-spec, with EU Certificate of Conformity &c. If so it still seems to me the manufacturer's warranty would be valid, but I can't say that with authority.

Are you committed?

Only when I bought my new WRX (to sit alongside my Azure Elise by the way...) it was more like 16,000 from Belgium and that's with a 3 year warranty.

Be very careful with cars from Cyprus as they are not a member of the EU, so you could face all types of problems. Subaru UK will not honour any warranty, as stated in a previous post the UK dealer would have to ring up whoever supplied the warranty and get them to authorise the work. The worst case scenario is that Subaru dealers would not touch the car and tell you to go back to Cyprus. I would check with a UK Subaru dealer for their views. They may be slightly biased but should be able to point you in the right direction, they put me off buying one from a dealer who imports from Cyprus.

Thanks for replies, not committed fortunately so probably a non-goer from Cyprus.

BT52b, we met at Donington last year, there were 2 of us in Azure Liz's (Stu and Jamesm) with someone in a green MGB race car.

Oh yes!
That MG was great to watch. Sideways on every bend.
The owner has a D-type and an F1-Cooper but reckons his B is the most fun.

Are there any open pit lane events at Donington this year?

Cyprus? Steer clear Mate. Much safer to go for Belgium or Holland - you'll be able to get something well under £18K to your door. And, it'll have a 3 year European warranty, proper rustproofing, and be full UK spec. So, with all these - it'll be a lot easier to sell on.

Its a grey import - as such IM will have on interest what so ever. Dealer attitudes will vary tho.
