OK - this PPP everywhere and the majority of people feel it is well worth the £1,600 list price on the WRX.

A feq questions Im sure most of you can answer for me:

1. What exact components does the PPP upgrade include?
2. Does it have to be fitted at the time of order or can it be retro-fitted once youve got the wonga to afford it?
3. What is a reasonable BHP increase to expect when adding a PPP to a WRX?

The main reason I ask question 1 is I like the full scoobysport exhaust setup (mainly for the sound it makes) and am wondering what (if any) parts the PPP already covers?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but Id rather look dumb and know the facts than assume and keep quiet.

Simon.

Question

PPP is different depending on Model Year - Am I right in assuming you mean a UK MY01 WRX?

Wilf - you're probably right - but its a tough call P1 vs STI 7.

Would love to see a good side by side comparison.

P1 has the grunt - looks & sound - IMHO.

STI7's although very smooth is not so exciting, it has stealth like speed and grip - probably quicker for the average driver - just MHO.

Well Ive looked long and hard and P1 dealer prices are around £24-25k at best (I personally wouldnt be happy buying a 2nd hand car of that value privately). I thought maybe a haggle would save me £1k or more if I walked in with cash and no p/ex but Ive been interested in 3 P1's at three different dealers and theyve all gone within 3-4 days of being on sale even though I thought they were still overpriced - so there is more than enough demand to justify the dealers prices at the moment.

Plus the insurance at 25 will be around £1,300 plus tracker costs. I can get a WRX imported for £17k so thats £7-8k cheaper and its a new car so I know it hasnt been thrashed on a track. That way I can spend £3-4k making the WRX my own car with mods and still have saved money. Its also more of a day to day car. Insurance around £850 without a tracker.

Believe me when I say that Ive thought about this a lot - in fact Ive even dreamed about it. My head has finally taken the sensible option.

The PPP contains ECU, intercooler pipework, decat mid pipe and prodrive back box. Realistic power 245 bhp ish, 230-240 lbft torque.

For an extra approx 650.00 quid you can also have the full Scoobysport decat upgrade. Loads more power and torque and all of the noise. You do lose the warranty though.

You can have it fitted new or later the choice as they say is yours.

Nathan - Cheers

Hmm Scoobysport sounds the way to go, which is what I initially thought. Are you serious about it being £650 more than the PP - thats like £2,200? What specific parts does the Scoobysport system include other than the 3 exhaust sections?

Cheers,

Simon.

Nah, he mean £650 (+vat?) for the exhaust only. Above plot is from Pete Croney's car....

If you're going for decat and loss of warranty, then why not consider a unichip and full exhaust + induction, this has been proven by APS @ a reliable 280bhp from a(aus/UK) MY01/02 WRX.

Otherwise views on the MY01 PPP have been mixed as it is apparently not a full remap and doesn't seem to perform as well as previous PPP's... Of course there are exceptions (See Scott's UK300).

Just my opinion but surely if your planning to spend £3-4k on standard import WRX you are nearly at the price of an import STI anyway...

To clarify what I meant.

PPP = £1600 245 bhp

Scoobysport Decat up and down pipes and C02 fix board to keep the check engine light from coming on as you have removed all the catalytic convertors. = approx £650.00

PPP + Scoobysport decat pipes = approx 265-275 bhp..

Hope that makes more sense.

Aargh - now I get ya! Hmm sounds like the PPP is best as I dont really want to lose the warranty. Whilst talking about warrantys would just a SS BBox affect my warranty and would it sound as good without the rest of the exhaust upgraded?

P1Fanatic,

I was considering a Euro import WRX + PPP myself, but went off the idea when I read (under a number of threads on this board) that PPP's are only an Subaru approved accessory in the UK, and since your imported WRX would have a Dutch/Belgum warranty, this may become void once you fit the PPP.

Would definately be worth your while checking this before you decide on that route.

Depends who your dealer is, as to "do you loose the warranty?".

I know there are couple of guys here who may help.

When I had a sycho crunch on my MY01 Euro import, I found two dealers willing to do this work for me, and I have a 'Full Fat' scoobysport

Can you even get a PPP with a Euro import??

Just a thought,

UK spec WRX euro import + PPP = 17K + 1.6K = 18.6K

UK spec STI7 euro import 21.3K from http://www.micronetshowroom.com/

Difference is only 2700?

I think warranty for the euro sourced STI is only 1 year though, and no tracker I think.

Wink

With the standard UK STI7 it all depends on how you want to drive?

Nothing below 4000rpm, then big turbo hit , then change gear due to short box

Or

Pulls at 2500, big boost at 3000, hold long gears until 7000 without losing momentum, then hey-presto you've outdragged an STI

If your worried about handling: get Leda

Simon,

I've got an MY02 from Belgium and am considering the PPP, but since the STi came out it started me thinking maybe I could sell the MY02 and put the PPP money towards the STi. As Spoons points out it's only 2700 difference if you take the price from micronet (if you ignore any depreciation), thing is it's still ANOTHER 2700 on top of what you will already owe for the WRX and as with the P1, more for insurance, every year.

It's a tough call, the difference may be even less when the dealers in Belgium release their STi prices, should in the next month or so.

Just to cover a point raised here:

PPP will be available for Belgium/Dutch cars, I've been in communication with Subaru Belgium, just waiting on confirmation on how it has to be fitted to keep the warranty, already had confirmation through Nick at Prodrive, but waiting for the offical source to reply.

Not sure about the back box affecting your Belgium warranty, not sure what the offical line is, tried to get some feedback on this but only got a reply on the PPP. If you did have to make a claim you could always swap back to the original. If you didn't, I think Subaru Belgium would have difficulty trying to justify invalidating a warranty on a BB replacement. Surely the fault part would have to have a direct line with the replacement part???

I'm interested to find out if Subaru Belgium are going to follow suit with the other Prodrive upgrades available in the UK.

Scott if your still about, Scoop, how much and where from.
