Wastegate - Sound off!!
Hi there,
I'm new to the world of scooby's and I love every minute of it!! I知 looking to do a couple of changes to my WRX Y03 with Prodrive installed. Please be patient with me, I知 not a engine nut, I知 more of a body work/electrical kinda guy! So if I've made a mistake, please correct me, I need to know.
Right so here it goes...
I'm looking to increase the noise (flutter) out of my wastegate/Dump valve (what ever its called) the flutter happens around 3/4000 rpm, it痴 a Turbosmart which is adjustable. I have adjusted it with no real effect to the sound off. I would like it to sound off louder and in a lot lower revs, would this mean I would need a new wastegate/dump valve, would I need to tweak the ECU or would it mean something else. I feel less inclined to mess around with the ECU after it痴 been changed when the pro drive kit was installed so if you could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
A real idiots guide to this is something I really need so please, be gentle.
Thanks for reading. :-)

Hi Maddish,
Adjusting the dumpvalve won't make a difference, you should adjust this back to where it was as it can affect the running of the car.
Does your dump valve vent to atmosphere? i.e make a whooshing noise?
I found that fitting a decat downpipe helps with the noise that you are after but failing that swap back to a re-circ dumpvalve and the APS turbo inlet pipe for a great sound
If it is the dump valve noise that you are after then Turbosmart do a supersonic version.

it would be very dificult to do, the sound off is not that loud at all, i can hear it internally, quitly but thats about it. I seriously have to kick it to get any kind of a response out of it.

The dump valve makes the noise when you lift off.
If it "dumped" all the air at lower revs then you would have no boost/power.
you want to kill all the power, but at least it will sound good in your opinion?
honestly?
search VTA or something similar and get a general consensus for how highly they are regarded and the effect they can have on the car

remember your only boosting on a tdo4 not a massive turbo. that said i had a basic turbosmart on my tdo4 (previous car) and it was extremely loud (got rid and went back to the standard one much better) but was fully decatted. if it's a prodrive it should have a silicone pipe already.

You need an induction kit and a front mount to get the chattering mate. My car has a front mount/induction kit/intake trumpet and a bigger turbo, it chatters like mad, and is VERY loud!!
An induction kit on its own will help you get the sound your after without spending big bucks!!

Thanks all, I cant believe the response after one day :-) the car does already have a silicone pipe but no induction kit, well none stock anyway. I think I’m going to have a go at the induction kit and see how that goes.
Thanks.
Thanks.
