looking at buying a P1
Hi Guys,
looking at getting a P1 but i'm just trying to get a few checks done first.
1. how much to service?
2. how many miles per service?
3. Where to service in the south west?
4. What oil to use in between servicing
5. What to look out for when buying one (is there a buying guide?)
cheers guys, you help would be very much apreiciated
Rich

1. Servicing is every 7500 miles / six months and will cost between £100 for an oil service to £500-£600 for a major with a cambelt change (45k/3years)
2. See above,
3. Powerstation in Tewkesbury are pretty good and easily accessible from the SW as there jus off the M5.
4. Between servicing oil: Well if you're keen you can change it between services but as it's every 7.5k and uses full synth it should be good for that unless you doing track days with it. As mentioned full synth is best and type as per the handbook.
5. You'll see a lot that have had engine rebuilds, not necessarily a bad thing. The P1 is essentially a Japanese spec. STi Type R which is mapped for 100RON fuel. ProDrive took a batch of these and adapted them for the UK including some measures to make it run ok on super unleaded / 97RON. Unfortunately back in them days they didn't have the technology to re-map the ECU so the adjustments for 97RON petrol were a bit crude and ultimately didn't work brilliantly hence quite a few engines have gone to the dreaded DET. Now one with an engine rebuild and subsequent re-map to UK fuel should prove to be a significantly more reliable beast. If it hasn't been re-mapped and is still on the original engine then budget accordingly, certainly get it re-mapped asap but consider that engine failure may be imminent. Also worth investing in a KnockLink / Knock detector so you will get a visual warning if it's detting at all.
As mentioned check out the P1 owners club and also Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | SidcFaq / SIDC FAQ is a good place for info

cheers that's great too ... looks about the same as the skyline costs then
this is all for a friend that has decided that his 300bhp calibra is costing too much to own lol ... i guess he'll find this just as hard but still at least it'll look a little better
