fuel ? what do you use?
Hi guys , quick question ? picking my sti up tomorrow and have a 200 mile trip home. What fuel is recomended and why , can I rub normal unlead just to chill getting me home, or should I be running super unleaded all the time? Does it matter what fuel I use ?

i only ever run shell v-power nothing less.
you could try a few different fuels and see what suits the car best , i would recommend sticking to sul fuel.

Running my WRX waggon happily on Tescos Super Unleaded. 99RON
To be honest, couldn't notice the difference between regular and super but then a waggon blob eye is only running 225bhp!

i run mine on tesco super with it being an import, i did once put in bp ultima as they were an option if you couldnt get v power and i did notice a difference slight drop in power plus i didnt realise that bp is only 97 ron so have stuck with tescos much better fuel economy too.

A UK STI will run fine on 95 RON.
It will run better on V Power or Tesco 99. The higher octane fuel will increase your MPG by around 30miles per tank, offsetting the additional cost at the pump.

i was using shell-v power and one day like the fool i am i was running on vapours, so i had to dart to sainsburys. i was getting 170 miles to a tank on the shell stuff. i put the same ammount of fuel in at sainburys ( brimmed the tank like you have to every other day haha ) and i ended up getting 200 miles from the sainsburys stuff. and it was cheaper.

Not really relevant but my mechanic mate runs his mk2 golf gti on the contents of fuel tanks when renault owners put derv in their petrol cars!
Not sure the mpg goes up for amount of diesel in it though!
Pretty sure it won't work for our imprezas though!

You will get away with normal unleaded but it will run more efficiently on Super Unleaded.
Better runing engine= more mpg/more power/happier engine
SUL actually works out cheaper thru the extra mpg even tho regular is cheaper at the pump

I alway's use V Power if i can get to a shell garage. it's got cleaning agents in it which help to remove harmful deposit build ups in your engine which can only be better in the long run.
The higher ron in the super unleaded is better for power and responsiveness from your engine as well.
The biggest seller of V Power for me is that it's keeping my engine clean. The extra power that you get from the high ron doesn't really bother me as i've had to fill my car up recently with normal unleaded because there wasn't any super on the pumps but my car still moved like s*** off a shovel.
I f*****g love my car!

cheapest possible normal unleaded.
I find it doesn't really marr my performance, sat in traffic
if on a track day- maybe there is some point. can't see point of slinging yr money about to be honest. maybe I'm wrong.

No offence but you are wrong....lol
Cheapest fuel possible will not have your engine running as efficiently as the Super Unleaded will and it is this engine efficiency that brings up the mpg.
It has been researched and tested many times that mpg is improved to an extent that the cost per mile is cheaper when using super unleaded. (IIRC Tesco 99 always seems to outperform V-Power....)
More expensive at the pumps but gives more mpg so overall is cheaper per mile.
And yes, 1998 Turbo will respond better to the Super Unleaded. All cars will really but you will notice the benefits more in higher- performance engines.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
My car is MY04 JDM STi and it has been remapped to Shell V-Power.
I know it's better to stick with V-Power but the question is, can I use Tesco 99 occationally?

You can use Tesco99 whenever you want bud- will make no difference :-D
They have the same 99RON rating so are much and such the same as far as your engine map is concerned. If anything, going by recent studies, TEsco 99 is actually a better quality ;-)
