Ouch! I hope everybody is OK.

I have just booked my first track day..... it might be worth me giving Eggar Lawson Insurance a ring...£75 doesn't seem that much after all!

Hope it doesn't get put back on the road ... one careful owner.

Ian.

Nice P1 gold 18" alloys.

Lokks like you don't need to be the owner of a P1 after all to be able to buy the wheels.

Unless you are a dealer of course and you can bend the rules!

Unhappy

A worrying time for those of us there. All OK just a little shaken.

Track day insurance is a must!

The MY01 doesn't improve the driver though..

Someone who was involved may come forward and give a first hand account, but I *heard* that it got out of shape, left the left hand side of the track, and then slewed back across the track and over. But that's just a rumour.

Kurt

You can buy P1 style 18" gold alloys for the MY01. They have a different tyre fitted.

I think we have seen video footage of a couple of cars at Oulton in the past coming off worse for wear. Oulton is not the most forgiving place.

Question is will Tim at Listers bring his cars out on track again. At least they can delete it from their for sale list on the Web Site.

Not nice to see for anyone.

I dont know how it happened cos i didnt see it but i warned a few of the guys i know in the morning about lodge corner, seems they listened and had a good day.

Lodge is THE corner on Oulton that will catch you out big time, as you exit the corner and go over the crest the road cambers away to the left, so you get both negative camber and a steep drop at the same time.

What this does if you are on the gas too soon or turn in too late is kick the rear end out and spin you into the inside armco.

From what i was told it seems this started to happen but the car dug in when sideways and flipped. This is 2nd hand info though so it could be wrong.

Glad everyone got out ok. I saw the aftermath. Not pretty. I do not agree a dealer bringing cars anyway. Some unsuspecting person might buy them not knowing they have been 'thrashed' (loose term!) around the track!! Probably going to get a verbal kicking.

Good News about the passenger, what about the driver? I hope no injuries.(they took their time getting him out)
I thought the car turned over when it went broadside onto (and into) the grass.
I have a pic of it on its roof, should i post it?

Phil.

Makes me a bit weary of my "weekend adventures" - last year I was lucky not to wrap my MY00 around a lamp post during a nighttime Rally Sprint!

Get out there and enjoy yourself, you only live once, but do apreciate the risks you are taking, you ARE taking risks.

If you can't accept that you could write your car off and end up in hospital, then you shouldn't be on track. These things can and do happen.

I have posted this before, but if you plan on doing track days, check you have your finances in order and you have written a will. Also check any insurance you carry for life/sickness is not void by track days.

i would be interested in seeing the car on its roof.

John,

I comply with all you suggestions apart from the "finances in order section" LOL.

Fizz,

Why the problem with dealers taking cars on track, any second hand car you buy could have been tracked. A lot of people buy Jap imports with history that is virtually impossible to check. Just make sure you get a good warranty.

Well I wouldn't buy a second hand turbo car. Not everyone takes car to cool down their cars after a session. I might be the odd one out on this but you don't expect dealers to do it. Never raced or rallied, Pah!

I had just turned up to spectate on that very bend before it happened. I saw the Skyline get out of shape seconds before the Lister car went off. I guess the Skyline's electronics saved him from a BIG one aswell!

Pity about the customer in the Lister car though. The back slewed out to the left and it looked like the driver didn't catch it in time, from the speed reduction I suppose he lifted which just made things worse. The car then headed towards the inside tyre wall with the nearside front tyre digging into the soft verge which flipped the car over quite slowly (relatively). The passenger was out immediately but the driver was trapped for some time.

I would have had it on film but my wife said I couldn't take the video camera today!

Glad everyone was OK though.

F
