Default New Impreza Models Explained

okay being a classic guy i dont ahve a clue about all these new impreza models.. so can someone go thrpough them and explain with pics if possible the differences .

cheers

p.s. im referring to newage and above such as

spec c

spec d

ra r

wrx

wrx-s

sti

sti-s?

etc..

it just confused me as i thought a brand new wrx for 13k was cheap but looking at the spec its just like an old uk turbo 2000

spec c - JDM lightweight model (thinner panels and glass, 2.0 engine with twin-scroll roller bearing turbo, might not have A/C or leccy windows, 12 litre water tank in (uncarpeted) boot for I/C spray, roof vent.

spec d - UK 'discrete' STi model with lower WRX wing, silver alloys. Looks like a WRX.

ra r - Based on JDM Spec C but has many STi suspension modifications, AWESOME.

wrx - Newage - Model down from STi, still turbo, but less power, lower spec suspension, 5sp, small wing.

wrx-s - New hatchback model, not sure about these.

sti - UK & JDM, however, UK has 2.5 engine from 06, JDM keeps 2.0 and also has twin scroll (as well as better steering, headlights, rear wash-wipe etc)

sti-s - Again, new hatchback, not sure.

My STI has a 'Type M' badge on it! does that mean anything?? or it is just stuck on by the previous owner? looks real though as its on both front & rear of the car. I typed on the net to find out about it but never could find anything

Saved as I have the memory of a Goldfish (appologies to all goldfish out there)

And I haven't even included the hatchback versions

I believe the Bugeye had two Prodrive options. A styling option which was purely cosmetic changes, and a performance pack which upped the power. Some had one or the other, a few had both.

was getting some quotes on confused.com...the models listed were....
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI 2001-2002 1994cc 4 DOOR SALOON Manual Petrol
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI TYPE UK (PRODRIVE) 2002-2002 1994cc 4 DOOR SALOON Manual Petrol
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI TYPE UK 2002-2003 1994cc 4 DOOR SALOON Manual Petrol

both the 'type uk' models were about 1k , the top one was 1700!!

when looking through autotrader, what model are all the 'wrx sti's' of around that age likely to be ?

and why is that 1 model so much more to insure than the 2 'type uk' ones ?

I don't think its an import as there is a seperate bit on the confused website where it asks if the car's an import

Not certain what the "J" stands for, must be a special edition STi, does it have, "Prodrive styling" or a roof flap?

"My02 Prodrive styling"

MY02STi's Had different Barge board bumpers, side sills, grills and blue dash boards,

Some of the "Prodrive styling" were sent to Japan to change the JDM's for special editions

"Prodrive Performance Pack"

This was fitted after car was registered, first about mid 2002. £1995 fitted normally after 1st service. The Standard car was 261Bhp and had no power till 2700rpm then broke your neck when it hit boost.

With PPP fitted the car was claimed to have 305ps/300lbs it did make the car far more drivable and essential IMHO (I wouldn't have kept it for 3 years without PPP

"General" insurance companies are notoriuos for there @@@@ understanding of Scoobs and I have little faith in any "Automated" quotes for any scoobs

here a couple of possible reason

1) It's just a @@@@ up

2) MY02 STi (bugeye) it could be high due to recorded insurance history of PPP fitted 305ps(300bhp ish ) or any other mods.

3) It could be due to it was an EU import and not a JDM import

4) This Bugeye maybe only "Prodrive style" and 261 and no history of any Mods, but may have been done

5) This Blobeye maybe only standard 265 and no history of any Mods but may have been done. PPP was not quite as enssential as the Bugeye STi

If a UK or EU 4door Turbo Saloon you have only 2 choices

a WRX 02-05 UK/EU (220bhp 5 speed)
or
WRX STi 02-05 UK/EU (261-265Bhp, 6speed and brembos)

The Subaru upgrades PPP, PHP(spring kit) and PF7's 18"s were available for both WRX and WRX STi's any of these upgrades can effect Premiums, many had all three

IMHO IIRC

Cheers Tony i had a quick look today and found that engine is EJ207dw4ER car is essentialy a spec c or S202
the ecu identifies it as STI RA spec C
but fitted with AC tints and EW. this is what j stands for
Name of the Car is WRX STI Limited
A vf30 sadley not a ballbearing turbo
the car was made to celebrate Subaru 30th anniversary
300 bhp- 384 nm of tourque.standard
car has red induction hose red manifolfd.
drives strangely different than every other sccob i have driven including jdm sti's just cant put my finger on it.
car does 200 max to the tank I have done 30 miles and the low fuel light was on.from full.

any one have any other info,

so I may own a right odd ball but it certainly goes like ****
could be quite rare !

The UK300 was a stop-gap special edition to try and appease enthusiast at the lack of a UK STi model. Effectively it was a Bugeye WRX with some styling bits and PPP thrown in. The STi appeared properly a few months later.

to me it looks like a bog standard UK "Spec D" a discreet STi much like a JDM "A Line"

And nothing special other than bespoke leather seats (no PPP etc)

Isn't that just a body kit? I'm pretty sure that wasn't a Subaru one but I think that's what the new Fast and Furious STI had.

Looking at getting a WRX Blobeye estate, can anyone tell me what the differences are apart from the obvious?

Any changes to the rear suspension or anything like that?

Cheers guys, I started a dedicated thread but no responses
