Are there?

I've been looking at changing my STI v2 for a version 5 or 6, but there aren't that many around at all - and many of the cars that are for sale are at dodgy garages that I wouldn't touch with a long pole.

The very nearest STI 5 or 6 on Pistonheads right now is nearly 50 miles away from me... and the rest are all 100 miles or more. That's a heck of a round trip to discover that a car is a bit of a shed

Lol, I made a 1000 mile round trip to collect my current sti5, without seeing the car beforehand.

Thankfully Liam at Glengurgie is a man of his word. The car was exactly as he stated.

I've no problem with a long trip if I know I'll actually want the car when I see it, but my experience of buying s/h cars is that for every one decent motor there are about half a dozen that are obviously well knackered - and their owners are lying sh*ts who will happily describe the car as 'immaculate' over the phone to get people to view it.

At what point do cynicism and experience become one and the same thing?

Take your time (if you have other transport) I was looking for 3 months before I found mine mainly because I was on a very tight budget and didn’t want a rough car. I could have got one sooner but it wouldn’t have been anything like the car I got.
Be prepared to travel for the right car I went to Glasgow for mine (I live in France) but it was worth it

We have had many a 'day out' over the last several weeks, and we found our new addition to the family on here and she is a beauty. There are some out there, just have to keep an eye out and make sure they are straight.
We drove about 400 miles yesterday and we will do that again on sat when we go and pick the car up.
It didn't matter to us where we had to go to (free fuel and a company can helped). We just wanted to find the right car.

I was contacted about this one.. it's a nice car, and worth the money, just not everyones cup of tea.

I did get a look at another one on here. A Mica blue classic, low miles, all pretty good, It didn't have a/c though. He has not actually got the car up for sale, he just asked me if I wanted to go and have a look and if I liked it...... deal. Nice chap too.

As the car was not up for sale I don't feel I should be giving his details away.
All I can suggest is that you keep an eye out in the for sale section in case he decides to advertise it.
I have a feeling he might do, as he is not using it anymore.

Well I have his details still in my pm and if he does decide to sell it I will let you know.
Failing that I will drop him a pm saying that if he were to advertise it here (he is a member) he would have no problems selling it.

I'm holding out for one in particular and I'll know at least by Monday if its mine. If not I'm probably going to leave it for a bit, invest some money and go on holiday. If a very nice sonic blue car rolls up in budget I'll take a look - theres 2 very close to me right now but mileage too high and patchy history.

The ebay mica blue looks OK but as NS says probably better ones out there. I like the silver wagon but its silver and its a wagon so no. Theres a very nice red UKer on PH but not sure on red and theres not much history - looks good though.

AlanPPP.... I have sent that bloke a message about the car and told him that you are looking for a classic, so I suppose he may contact you, either than or he will let me know what he plans to do.
Will wait and see.
