Classics & Big-End Failure??
I,ve been reading a few threads lately again about the dreaded failure and i was wondering, are there many of us on here that have a classic running over 70k miles or more still going strong??
It just seems to me they fail around the 60-70k mark..
Also i was wondering, can an engine still suffer even if it,s been mapped??
Is the exact cause of B-E Failure a fuel issue??
Just abit scary to think we all could be living on borrowed time with our engines..
What,s your views folks??

Mine is mapped and has a modfied oil pump. Most but not all failures are down to the oil pump release valve sticking or det...and lack of servicing.
Mine has 73,000 on the clock and still going strong. These engines are highly stressed lumps once you start tuning them and need to looked after and tuned in the correct manner as to avoid unnecessary engine failures.

So the Oil Pump is an essential upgrade you,d say then T5OLF??
Not sure if mine has an upgraded one tbh. i,ll have to check, especially as i,m running 350/350...

Its not just classics. Ive just heard of blobeye with 35k on the clock where the bottom end has gone.
I also know a guy who's classic wagon has covered 150k on the orginal engine, its used everyday and has done more track days than you can shake a stick at and is still going strong.

saw a classic today at work 175,000 original engine and oil pump yet i've got a 53 plate apart with 60,000 on the clock that has actually seized the engine solid on the bigends you cant turn it over at all, everything else though bores and heads and cams are fine

I've got a MY98 with 141,000 miles on the clock, full service history with mild mods and its still running strong...got every receipt from new and its never had a rebuild (and still on original suspension though its very tired lol!)...oh...and its been to the Nurburgring past 2 years doin constant 9min 30sec lap times which arent that quick but not bad for a daily runner that does 50 miles each day.......so dont worry bout mileage if they've been well looked after!

93,000 miles here .... serviced every single 6 months on the button.
As sweet as the day I bought it, maybe even sweeter (as it was new when I bought it)
Treat them well, don't play about with them, drive with intelligence and they are as tough as old boots!!

A **** day tho. Decided to fit the Cusco decals today but it went pear shaped so decided to pull it all off again. In doing that it stripped the paint off the offside front and rear doors.!! gutted or what......oh well **** happens i suppose, off to the bodyshop for paint.

There seems to be an influx of big end failures and it seems related to the cheap price of them, wondering if now the real doggy ones are attracting people yet they are cheap becuae they have knock.

Think the Uk cars last longer due to lack of stress.
Wifes UK MY97 went last year at 130k miles.
My UK MY97 has been better looked after and is on 133k miles, but I have a spare bottom end in the garage waiting for the inevitable
Gearbox went on mine last year.
Suspension tired on both until I changed the shocks on mine. What a difference, feels like a new car. Lot less understeer, almost no roll, but still comfy for the daily comute. Used max negative camber and 1mm toe in, similar to Prodrive settings. Was looking at changing the ARB but not needed now and don't like tail happy cars anyway. Was always suspicious of that mod as the UK car has 20mm bars front and rear.
Doing the shocks on the wifes next week.
