Be careful, I've had many bits from the US, without paying tax, but if they pick yours for scrutiny(about 1 in 3 parcels in told) then you're looking at 26% tax in total!
The bigger, or more expensive declared value, the more likely you'll get done.

Technically you should pay 10% import duty and VAT iirc. Also the carrier will charge an admin fee for doing this, generally around £15-20. If the supplier declares them as a gift of $20 (I think) or less you can theoretically get away with it unless HMRC decide to inspect the package and question the declaration.

hi mate. i have imported parts from the states for my jetski and there is a import duty to be paid. customs are dodgy as they also charge you duty on the postage aswell. the customer service is second to none in the states though and i explained that by the time i paid duty it wouldnt benifit me to buy from them. they said they would do an invoice for $100 and it only cost me £35 in duty. my mate has also just bought a box of engine parts and got an invoice for $100. ask them for an invoice. i guarentee they will do it saving you a fortune

Its usually anything under £70 including postage won't be looked at - unless its very heavy/large.

Anything over you may or may not be picked up. Once something is picked up and you are charged everything else to that address over £70 will be picked up.
