Default What Made Everyone Start Liking Scoobs ?

come on then, how old were you when you first liked scoobs,,

out of the other cars in its ''league', the evo and skyline, what made you opt for the scoob..
and how old were you before your scooby virginity went and you either went shotgun or owned one.

personally my dad had a legacy, and i had a little subaru jacket when i was a wee minor, then my old boss had a classic that he was always in and out of scooby clinic every bloody week with, thats personally when i fell in love with the impreza.

my first spin was at a subaru garage 9 years ago (33 now), salesman gave me some keys for a my98 turbo wagon and I went for a spin with my wife, I gave it some beans and had a massive grin, I was hooked

didnt buy that one as it was too much money, but got 1 a week later and then the big grin returned

I've never liked them, too brash for me. Prefer the Audi RS4 but can't afford one

Evo is better looking but too extreme and the skyline is too big (the old one that is, the new one is the nuts).

But when it comes down to it I love the performance and the handling of the Impreza combined with it's practicality. Oh and the rumble - exquisite when not overdone with a booming exhaust.

1992/3 whenever it was first reviewed on Top Gear was when I decided I wanted one - AWD & a turbo did it for me (used to hanker after a Mazda 4WD turbo) - took until July 99 to buy my first when the wife wanted a 5-dr family car with aircon when the sprog was born How old? 35

The noise! It's not common in terms of number of cars produced and unlike NA cars performance "enhancing" is cheap.

First Scoob at 39, now on No.5 at 44

I always liked the noise, but my first drive was a k-plate WRX. Compared to the V6 cav I was driving at the time I was pretty disappointed so I went off them. My brother-in-law traded that in for a bug about 5 years ago and I found driving that so much different and was then hooked. Soon scrapped the cav (it was worth more in pieces) and used the money I made as a deposit against my current scoob about 3 years ago.

I liked them since I was at school, nothing to do with WRC or anything like that,I just saw them around on the road and wanted one.

The first time I was ever in one was a Uk turbo, I went and blagged a test drive and was very underwhelmed by it, so bought a Civic Type r that was in the same garage. What did it was during the test drive I came across and Sapphire Cosworth on the A12, thought I could leave it, he left me for dead. Along with the fact the the seats reminded me of something out of a Mondeo...

Unfortunately this put me off for a while, and drove around in the CTR for 6 months before returning and test driving my old bug WRX, the interior was so much more like what I was expecting and I was sold.

I know what you mean about cossies. They where the car when I started modding, but it would have to be an Escort or ideally an RS500

I just fell in love with the sound of them.Nothing remotely to do with rallying as they rarely won anything anyway.Has to be the flat 4 burble that won it for me

i love motorsport and rallying got me interested but at the time i could never afford one. My neighbour came home one night in what sounded like a helicopter, it was the sound that got me hooked it was a classic with a blitz nur spec, a month later i bought a new import and still love it.
i don't get upset when a diesel 'shows off' when i'm overtaking, or get annoyed when i have to drive 15miles each way to fill up with v-power, or get stage fright when an evo rolls up next to me, or worry if i have to see the chiropracter, i don't mind saxo's, 106's, clio's etc getting ambitious at the lights, i don't mind that i have to park 1.5miles from the supermarket doors to protect my doors, i don't mind wrestling with a disclock everytime i leave the car, i don't mind being on 'nightwatch' and behaving like a commando everytime i hear a noise near my car, i don't mind doing a 'keyed panel' check twice a day when i leave and come home from work, i don't mind having a food-ban in the car, it just makes me smile everytime i drive it, i don't regret it for a minute.

I've always been into cars. I remember watching the Rally GB on the BBC one year around 1994 (I was 13 or 14 at the time) or so and they had the Legacy. Loved the noise.
I was into RS Turbo's,R5 GTT,Cossies the Max Power era. D'oh.

I had a call from my cousin one Saturday afternoon in 1998 and he asked me if I wanted to go out in his new car for a drive (I was 17 at the time). When he pulled up at my Mum's house in a P1 (was early build in the 100's). Even since then I fell in love with them but couldn't afford one at the time.

Now 28 on my 3rd Scoob.

I liked them from the days of watching the rallying when I was young but never seriously contemplated buying one.

Then one hot summers day stuck on the M6 going nowhere in an old Suzuki Swift with no air-con I decided I needed a new car. I spent 6 months looking around for something I liked but couldn't think of anything. I was all set to buy a 3 series touring as I needed an estate/hatch for the dogs, test drove it and all ready to pay..Then the Mrs suggested I try a Wagon so I thought why not.

I'd never even been a passenger in a scooby before. Anyway I came out of the dealer and drove around town stuck in traffic thinking this is nothing special. Then got to a roundabout that led onto a dual carriageway, nothing in front and the dealer said to give it some beans. Being used to the Suzuki I put my foot straight to the floor in 2nd gear and promptly **** myself and took it straight off again. Cue big smile that has never left. Cant imagine ever not owning one now.

The looks (personal for me classic) and the noise, no other car sounds like the scoob. 1st 1 was 25 dint want to pay over the odds for insurance. 2nd still got all in had for 5-6yrs no 5 yrs yes def 6 wait a min its 4 yrs.
When i was lookin for the first scoob i had 10k to spend, found a 1 owner moded minter 9.5k sold (ter me). Was lookin at evos at the same time but on the same w plate they was 14-15-and even 16k. So got the scoob and never looked back.

I was making rapid progress along a country road in 1995 when a strange looking estate appeared at the junction of a side road a few hundred yards in front of me.

He started to pull out in front of me and I thought 'the idiot hasn't seen me'... was about to brake when the thing just took off turning with seemingly impossible grip/speed and was gone.

Three weeks later I saw another one and noted the name. One year later I bought one.

Had one ever since for all but 8 weeks of last year.

One word: Rallying!

Watching C.McRae throw it round the forests, then standing only feet away as he was crowned world champion and doing a donut with the flag out the window. That crowned it for me.

Bought my first impreza, a UK2000 turbo at 23 in 1997.

Not sure how old I was, but my dad (who's first brand new car was a Mexico!) was always into motorsport and I can remember loving the distinctive scooby sound.

Always told people that one day I was going to own one.

Did the usual things - met my hubby (who was also into motorsport) he also said he would love a Scooby one day.

Imagine my horror when I turned up at my parents house for my dad to tell me he had got a Scooby before me - then proceed to show me a remote controlled car!

Anyway, got married, had child, never had any money..........until I got made redundant last year.

So at 41 I finally was able to purchase my 52 plate Bugeye (my second child)!

Imagine my grin when I turned up at my parents without first telling them what I'd got!!

It was & still is the best car, if money was no object (I wish) I would still have a Scooby as it is so much more than a car. I'm smitten

Having read another thread (forget which one now!) I think you are not too far away from us either? Work - near Ware Home - near Royston?

I think my dad is still hankering for one - but as he's retired to the hills of Wales he needs something a 'little more sensible' - though I think that is my mum speaking!!!

Don't look too hard for the motorsport mad hubby - they'll only want you for your Scooby mine does & keeps threatening to take it out without permission. I have warned him that if he does I'll report him for TWOC!
Its amazing how good he is if he thinks he may get to drive!

One of my first visit to southend on a saturday night, I remember a group of subarus driving around(old skool posers cruise). One of them must have floored it and it sounded like a rocket, from then on I loved the sound of scoobys.

it's all about the scooby rumble for me, always loved the sound but never thought I'd own one until a mate of mine basicly gave me his WRX STI wagon when he left the country to work in South America since then I've rarely been without a one... did think about an EVO when I was looking for a new one but my heart was always with the Subaru and the WR1 became my new and very much loved car!

I only bought my Scoob because the Supra I wanted to buy was crap and not like the pictures I'd seen. While I was at the importers I tested my scoob and a deal was done. Had always liked them so wasn't too disapointed about the Supra. Now I wouldn't swap my car for one.

Always had a soft spot for em since watching Colin back in the day. After a few yearss of quick-ish Vauxhall ownerswhip, and watching BOB off here run some bloody quick times down at Shakespere raceway, I decided I wanted something quicker and stronger, possibly scooby shaped. My first experience didn`t go well, test drive in a bugeye WRX, it was no faster then my current V6 calibra once rolling.
Soo I went off to find something else, test drove an EVO4, didn`t like it at all, seemed slow to spool. Skyline was too old for the money. M3 evo just tried to kill me on damp roads. Then I tried a classic STi, which was really good, and suited my driving style. On my hunt for a descent one, I tested a V5 Type R, adn 2 weeks later it was on the drive! That was 3 years ago and I was 24, on my second one now
