Planning to buy an STi.....
Hi all,
I had an imported K plate WRX a few years ago that I loved but had to sell when my second child arrived. After 5 years of dull car hell I am now planning to get another scooby, this time to hang on to. I need a 4 door car and fancy a 'Mark I' STi - my plan is to get the lowest mileage recent import I can find - my budget is around £4k which at the moment seems to buy quite a lot.
I have a couple of concerns - first of all with the gearing. My general mileage will be low but I will have the occasional 400 mile motorway journey to do. My WRX was very thirsty at anything over 80 - are STis any worse? Is the gearing the same?
Also, I have seen people mention on the forum about getting imports re-mapped, presumably to cope with lower RON petrol? Is it expensive? Is it absolutely necessary? I am happy to spend whatever it takes to keep the car in A1 condition but need to know what is required and what isn't.
Cheers in advance for any help!
