Would you buy a 110K mile MY2000 Turbo???
Hi All,
What are all your thoughts on a MY2000 Turbo (UK) with 110K on the clock. It has FULL Subaru history right until the last service, then used specialist to do cambelt/tensioner service. If I were to buy it, it would only be a second car (my second car at the moment did 1800miles in the last 12 months). It will be used by the Mrs to go shopping & ferry kids around, and for me to take out at weekends for a change from the company 'Mundane Mondeo'. Previously I would never have considered a car with this mileage, but thinking about the minimal mileage the Mrs will do, should I consider it??

PS Have done a search, but the few posts that come up are about price v's high mileage, and very old posts!!!

I don't see why not if the price is right and it has a whole bunch of stamps and receipts for services and oil changes. I would prefer to see specialist receipts than main dealers to be honest. This one sounds like its been well looked after by an enthusiast (2nd cambelt service in particular) and not thrashed every day. High mileage is probably due to motorway miles. Mine has over 85k and has never missed a beat.
Should the engine let go at some point you could have a tasty rebuild if the initial purchase price isn't too high. Looked after it could well go another 50k plus.

is it a 2000 turbo or MY2000?
I had 150k miles on my old 2000 UK tuned to 360bhp for the last 40k.
My RA has 420bhp and 180k on the clocks.
Mileage doesnt bother me, it does some though

I've got a MY00 with 92,000 on it and it's as sweet as the day I bought it, new - a staggering claim, but it's true!
If it's the car you want at a price you are happy to pay I don't think that 110k miles should worry you.
It's a Subaru, and if not messed about with, will give top service for ever!

I ran my 98 classic for 180000 miles from new, missed a couple of services towards the end and driven hard and fast everyday round the M25, only had to change a rad, fuel pump and ABS sensor and these items needed changing between 135000 and 180000 the fuel pump going at 176000.
Bullet proof cars imo, either that or I was lucky.
the FSSH should give u enough confidence imo

My old red UK Turbo had 120,000 miles on it when I bought it in Dec. '06. Engine was rebuilt at 70,000 though due to oil pump failure. Car fan absolutely fine to 136,000 in Dec. '07, when the original gearbox went. £900 for a recon one from API, and I was smiling again. Sold the car with 142,000 miles for £3000 last June to the first person that actually came out to look at it, just as my finances were worsening and the values were dropping like bricks.
Still going strong now on over 146,000. Had lots of history and pretty sure was running circa 300bhp before I bought it standardised
Very reliable car if little niggles are sorted quickly, and correct service parts/intervals are adhered too.

If it's in good condition with evidence of proper servicing and at the right price then no problem. But you have to accept that even with a full service book the dreaded big end problem may appear at any time, and also the drivetrain is not indestructable.
Both mine are daily drivers with over 130k on the clocks and driven to within an inch of blowing. One has had an engine and the other a gearbox. As with the above comment I have a spare engine and gearbox in the garage for when the inevitable happens
Plan ahead then you won't be running around in circles paying the earth to get it back on the road in a hurry.

People place far too high a premium on low mileage. In fact its far more likely a high miler will have been looked after and warmed up properly etc. I bought my old Scoob at 130k and did over 30k trouble free before I sold it. It had done 100k in the first 3 years...
As the other posters say. so long as they are treated well these cars are very reliable. Got a 99k 'chocolate bottom end' V5 STi now, so fingers crossed

I have a MY00 with 101,000 miles on the clock. probably very similar to the one you're looking at, dealer servicing to about 50,000 and then specialist after that. I've had it 6 years and in that time the only problem is the radiator cracked just before Christmas, £200 to fix it. Other than that it runs like a dream still.
I would make sure it's fairly standard, but apart from that you should be fine.

Great, thanks for all the replies!
It was totally standard for the first 105K, then had a CAT back stainless fitted, along with a dump valve and done 4K with these very minor mods. I have'nt got a problem with the exhaust, but I would change back to recirculating blow off valve. (Don't like the whoosh, each to their own I suppose) I got rid of my last scooby 10 years ago!! Back then had a '93 WRX with lots of STi goodies. I always said I'd have another one day, and now the time has come! Just got to find the right one, at the right price.
Chris
PS - Before I start another thread, who is the best company to talk to about insurance, had a few online quotes on UK cars, are STi quotes gonna frighten me?? I'm 31 with 9Years NCB, but the Mrs is 25 and only been driving 3.5 years.

I'm probably stereotyping because of the exhaust and dump valve combo
As for insurance i'd call Keith Michaels, MoleyWRX who is on here works for them and i got a good deal on mine with all mods declared, alternatively i'd try admiral too, i was with them on my previous car and to change to a Type R with exhaust and filter changed and with a 26 year old and myself (32) was about £550, changed as gave up trying to explain to them what a front mount was and how it wasn't a 2ltr anymore

Mine has nearly 137,000miles on it and only the usual wear an tear stuff has been replaced. You can buy a good one for next to nothing these days but you cant run them on a budget. My mother in law cant understand why I run an S reg car. I dont cut corners with it.
If you can see the bills and receipts and history an it all ties up and the car feels good then go for it.
Just beware though if your going from a hot hatch to an impreza even a ropey impreza will feel in a totally different league.

Thanks ginger, for your point of view, but this cracked me up:
"Just beware though if your going from a hot hatch to an impreza even a ropey impreza will feel in a totally different league."
I have actually owned a scoob before, and since have owned cars much faster than a standard scoob, including a 350 bhp/ton Westfield, now that had to be driven. A monkey can drive a scooby fast, their like a digital camera as in 'point and shoot' or point the steering wheel and nail the throttle!

In my experience If you service scoobs when you should and dont change too much on them I'm talking back box, air filter and wheels in my case they will last a long time, even if driven hard.

I kinda guessed you had owned one before mate but the title of your post caught my eye because its the sort of advice I was looking for when I got mine taking into consideration mileage etc and folks looking to buy their first impreza would have been interested as well. I dare say your a good driver too but not really relevant to the post.....
