Default Just got a quote

I got a quote for a remap as I have just fitted a decat downpipe and Blitz Nur Spec. This is the reply I got...Does this price sound crazy or is it just me?!

"We cannot remap the std brains on them however we can supply and fit a Vi-Pec standalone system including Anti Lag + Launch control fitted an mapped price is £1250 + VAT, the ecu will cope with anything you want to do to the car. "

If your ECU is one that cannot be remapped, then that sounds about right. (All depends on model). Never heard of a Vi-Pec. For that kind of money i would be considering a tried and tested standalone ECU.

Remaps for Version 5's cost around 650 quid just dont rag her with that decat pipe on as 5's and 6's (and P1's) can have big engine det issues (even with the normal cat in!)

for that price you can get a simtek ecu with all the extras, simon@jollygreenmonster is good, or neil@slowboy-racing is also good

another option is hop on the ferry to Cairnryan or Troon and drive over to Port Seaton near Edinburgh and go see Andy Forrest AndyForrestPerformance and he will sort you out

Looks like there's no way round this...either way it's gonna be an expensive modification.

Seeing as the ferry costs in and around 200 quid

I reckon there is a way around this
Depends on what mods you have though

You could send your ECU to Simon (JollyGreenMonster) and he could flash it for you.
Then, next time you're on the mainland (say, a weekend trip to scooby shoot out) he could fine tune it for you.
Its certainly true that you wouldn't have it pushed very close the edge for safety's sake, but you'd be able to drive it about with a reasonable bit of anger.
I'm sure he could find a similar map and remove some extra timing for safety, and then when you hook up he could give you the full map.

Just an idea to get you going

Firstly the Vipec is a Link ecu rebadged.. reasonable ecu but too much money imho compared to the SimTek.. however the standard ecu on your car is remappable using EcuTek for £550+VAT, the place that quoted you just probably haven't bought the software from EcuTek that allows you to do it.

I would join ScoobyIreland.com - Powered by vBulletin you will get lots of local knowledge and help not just with regards to your current questions.

I am actually in Northern Island doing a number of cars at the end of March. You are more than welcome to join it.

Thanks very much Simon thats a good help, and sounds viable. I had a nosey on scoobyireland and I'm just about to add my name to the list once I've registered. £550 + VAT sounds like a more down to earth price for the EcuTek. Any date organised yet?
