Default BUYING ADVICE, WHICH MODEL?

Hi, I am from a bike background (R1, GSXR, Blades etc....) anyway making the switch over from bikes to cars for a change so after some advice please from the experts. Basically looking for an impreza, will use for work but round trip only 20 miles and all B roads + got a family car for long journeys, weekends etc.. I really want an all out drivers car, race/track car on the road, been researching as much as possible and after any advice will start testing some cars and hopefully purchase one soon. Budget is 5k - 7k for the car, thanks.

98 etc...
version 4 or 5
Impreza STI Type RA
Impreza type R
Impreza WRX STi

01 etc..
WRX STi 7 Type RA Spec C
01-03
SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI (UK or JDM)

Quite a few newer 02 etc.. WRX STI (UK) cars about, how do these compare to classics, have they lost some of the edge or still awesome.

Thanks again for any advice...
