I would personally speak with Simon at Jolly Green Monster.

I had a 98 UK Turbo so was in the same boat. I had an Apexi ECU fitted and mapped which was about £930 all in. Think that's probably your best bet. Above that is the simtek though, which is seemingly a slightly better ECU with more features for £1000+.

Who can remap a 98 v4 type r?
Old School mappers. There were at least two solutions available, manufactured by Techtom in Japan and ChipTorque in Australia. The TechTom solution was supplied by Power Engineering and Graham Goode. Power Engineering later switched to the ChipTorque board, not sure if GGR ever changed.

The problem with this solution was cost; the boards were almost as expensive as the cheaper after market ECUs, so unless you had a very good reason for retaining the stock ECU it didn't make much sense. A while ago ESL indicated they might be producing a board for the MY97-98 ECUs, if/when that happens it may make a remap more sensible than a replacement ECU; until then a replacement or a used Techtom/ChipTorque board is the most sensible option.

Cheers,

Pat.
