Default Importing from America

Hi,

I've been looking around at parts / suppliers for my Scoob and have seen that for a number of parts, the best place for prices is in the states. Have any of you guys out their used American suppliers and how've you got on with them?

Not the best time for this with the exchange rate. If you get stung for import tax then you will be lucky to make any savings.

I've just ordered a prodrive 3-port from Cosworth Inc, but they wouldn't ship to the UK. Thankfully I'm across there next week so I can get it, but that's only going to cost £50 (brand new) and will be within my duty free limit.

Can't remember the supplier but I got my KYB shocks from the USA last year for £340 and that was shipped and included VAT and import duty and saved my about £180. With todays exchange rate I reckon it wouldn't have been any cheaper.

As well as duty and VAT, be aware of the carrier's admin charges which can be another £20 depending upon who is used.

The vendors are usually alright, but theyre frequently idle when it comes to shipping and simply pick the top price UPS service. My best quote was shipping ona pair of 17" Fuchs style wheels, at £500 for four wheels! I could have gone to New Jersey and brough them back as luggage for less!

I've used Importblowout who get a lot of their stuff from ExtremePSI.
I sourced injectors from there, saved £100 over getting them here.
Parts-£299, UPS postage £37, Tax £27.50. Delivery 4days.
Cheers
Trevor
