Do Impreza owners still wave?
#1
OK, a bit of fun really but I've noticed after having a Scoob for three years now that there is a mix of people who acknowledge each other as drivers of the 'best car on the road'.
I'd like to think that we have a bit of an exclusive club going and we should acknowledge that fact with a wave.
You will always get the 'ol git' who drives his Impreza like it's a Metro who looks at you with disgust if you wave or flash your lights at him, or immediately starts looking for the fuzz with a radar camera, never mind they'll work it out eventually. ;-)
So, when you see another Impreza, wave at him, you know it makes sense. (This rule doesn't apply to drivers around the Manchester area who might see white ones with orange stripes down the side, these drivers don't have a sense of humour and should be avoided at all cost!)

Dunk, yeah no problems, the 'Waffen SS in green' are legitimate targets for all drivers in the Brighton area so if I don't get one, someone will.
You can't park here for more than ten seconds before you have a swarm of green goons all round you.

Nice idea, and when I bought the car two years ago it seemed the norm to wave etc.
Nowadays it seems the majority of Impreza drivers I come across are actually the old gits you mentiones above.
I've got sick of wave at people just for them to look at me in disgust as if I've just waved my donger at them.
Perhaps things are different around your neck of the woods but this has been my experience around Beds Bucks Northants.

I've been a scooby owner for 4 months now and I take great delight in waving to other scooby owners (if I see them in time, that is). Reactions are mixed and vary between a cheery wave, a slight raising of the hand and a look of complete surprise that a stranger is waving!
Everyone should wave, it makes my day!

Always wave or flash (the lights!) at any Impreza be it a Turbo, Sport, WRX, etc. I've found that in certain areas you get everybody waving at you (ie: lake district ) and in others in just depends .....
I'll carrying on waving and flashing everything I see - as does the missus now who originally thought it was a little strange, she's caught the bug!!
Cheers

My Dad always does this in his MGF VVC, aparently in the 'ol days it used to be the thing to do...
With the older generations - they all "know the score" and happily wave back...
Perhaps everyone is just t6oo busy going about their own buisness !

I wave all the time (well nearly, some go past tooooo fast )
ive had only one 'confirmed' wave back (owner for 2 months now)
i think 'the wave' is a ScoobyNet thing and not everyone in one the net.
By the way, hi ya (waving franticly)

I always try to wave or flash the lights, but sometimes due to concentrating on my driving I don't see that an oncoming car is a Scooby until it's too late.
I must admit to a bit of "Turbo Snobbery", though.

I always try and wave if I see the other car in time (and that includes Sports Dunk!). But i must say I rarely get a wave back and often the other driver looks at me is if I am some sort of .
Wont stop me trying though.
Elvis if you see a silver 'R' reg Wagon with P1 wheels in Northants/Bucks wave coz *I* will wave back.

Glad to see theres not too much snobbery towards us 'lowly' Sport owners after all
A turbo's just not practical as a company car for me at the moment.
Maybe doesn't go like the proverbial off a shovel, but still looks nice IMO
I'll keep fruitlessly waving anyway

I wave at everyone, if they don't wave back then that is their problem.
I have even been known to have when I am on foot or in another car. The Silver turbo in Edinburgh actually waved back even though it was the passenger in a Civic Type R waving!
The EVO VI I wave to keeps giving a thumbs up, which is nice. Acknowleding a good car and each other takes no time.
I have no turbo snobbery, I just grin and wave!

Must be sai I have done that to T16GER, then thought "miserable git not waving back" then realised they had only a couple of seconds to notice the car realise I was waving and then respond! D'oh!!

Fantastic, this is what I thought, there is some pride is owning a 'Scoob', as there should be!!
As most say, wave and if they don't it's their problem. I have one girl on the way to work every day who I wave at and I *will" get a wave back soon (or a restraining order)
I'm not sure about the 'Sport' snobbery talked about, I've driven one for three years and about to upgrade to a WRX in a week (can't wait!!) but I've never had a problem with Turbo's ignoring me. We all drive the marque, versions shouldn't make a difference. I agree Dunk it may not be a tbo but it still looks the 'dogs whatsits'.
Keep 'em coming anyway. I had a feeling this thread would create some traffic!

i find waving extremely childish ... unless you know the guy what's the point ? should you then do a uturn, flash and get the guy to stop and then chat over a cup of coffee that thrills and excitement of owning a scooby ?? i think so ... NOT !! grow up you lot!! should beemer owners wave to fellow bemmer owners as well ?? just imaging that ! - everyone would start waving and flashing their headlights to such a point that it become ridiculous !!

Umm, beemers are as common as muck and not exclusive at all these days, so waving is pointless.
I'm a Corrado VR6 driver and see very few other Corrados (mind you i do not make a point of waving, maybe if the mood takes me - just not something I ever think about - admiring grins all around though). Scoobies are rare enough to do the waving thing too, but I think it over time there may get to be too many for it to be done (price to pay for success/good sales etc. I suppose).

Blaster said {"should beemer owners wave to fellow bemmer owners as well ??" "I don't see Porsche or Ferrari owners waving - do you ?"}
With respect the waving thing comes from the sort of cult status the Impreza has acheived and that is not something you can say many BMW's have achieved. Are you sure M3 owners never acknowledge each other though?
Can't comment on Porsches but when I have been out in my friends Testarossa and we have passed another Ferrari, on each occasion there has been much flashing and waving so on this admittedly limited evidence I would say Ferrari owners do wave at each other.
Maserati owners also wave at each other on the rare occasion we pass each other and this also goes for the other marques of classic cars I own.
It is just a bit of fun and this post is not intended in any way to be personal, just setting the record straight with my experience.
