GTX Magnatec From Subaru Dealer
#1
Hi,
Just had my UK WRX put through its first service - and they put GTX Magnatec (or however its spelt) in the car.
Is that OK or should it be Mobil synthetic oil?
Please can anyone tell me which oil i should use and if the GTX is ok for the time being
Thanks
James

For the 1st service that oil is ideal, it needs to be a semi synthetic as the engine is still bedding in, go for the fully syth next service, not the 0w oil though, the Subaru dealers can supply Mobil 1 thats warranty friendly.

Lordlucan, you are getting confused with Mobil 1 (pap) and Mobil 1 Motorsport (Good) they are two different products, Mobil 1 is the one that is 0w / ?
Anyhow I'm using Castrol Formula RS (10w/60) as it's only £35 for 4 litres.
NB I keep giving my dealer 5 litres as the manual says 4.5 litres, how much do you guys give them ?

.. I've got a flavour Mobil-1's all new sing-n-dancing oil, and its 5/40w rating, apparently Subaru approved too... Mill Lane are supplying it at no extra cost currently, and if you fill in the Mobil-1 survey you get a free baseball cap, so all the max-power-esk people don't need to buy them anymore

I am not confused !! just saying dont use the 0w Mobil 1, however I spoke to the Mobil help desk a few months ago and they did say that the ow oil hadnt been tested by Subaru however it was fine to use...Corr it all gets very complicated.
I bought loads of Mobil 1 in Calais, France 5w 50 for £18 a can, beat that, next time I will bring a load back for all you guys...

I have got the Magnetec BUT I have one question..........
If the oil is magnetic as the blurb suggests.... then surely this is BAD as all the little particles of swarf etc will stay in the oil and not drop out therefore keep whizzing round in the engine ..... !? Just curious

In my experience Magnatec puts a drag on the engine - noticed it on my old Calibra - engine was sluggish - replaced with different oil - whoosh, she was spinning up like a sewing machine again!!
Just my two penneth!!

I'm not telling you in case they run out !. It's actually a local motor factor and I don't know how long they will have it for.
Apparently there are two types - the 10w/60 and another one (0w/40 ?) which I don't want, but which is easy to find (Halfords etc) Sorry can't be of more use.
Lordlucan,
Maybe that should have read, I am getting confused. I swear they change the names / grades of these oils once a week just to confuse us

Nothing wrong with Mobil 1 Motorsport, that would be the only other oil I would use.
(Not because I know anything at all about oil, but because people who's opinion I trust and who have far more stressed engines than mine use them with no probs)
