Just booked my MY98 to be serviced by local dealer - they quoted 160 pounds (which did include VAT and labour). They previously seemed v reasonable when they did the 30k service....

Am I going mad or should these interim small services be more around the 100 quid mark ?? Did a search and on a previous thread GaryC suggested 75 quid for this service ? Would appreciate some advice...

Anyone else suggest other dealers local to Bracknell area could do it cheaper ??

Thanks

Tim

Just had my 22.5K service done for a total cost of £105.

This did include inspecting the brakes etc, as well as the oil change, but it still thought that it was expensive.

£160 sounds ridiculous for an oil change.

Andrew.

Can't help with an alternative but it seems high to me, I think ours was £85+VAT, so around 100 looks more like it.

What did you pay for the 30k service? Some garages, not neccessarily Subaru, are thought to have hiked labour charges to recoup lost sales revenue this year.

My 30K service was £330.00 incl. i believe.
this excludes brake pads ans covered all the fluids being changed, plugs i think. the 37.5k is a minor service - usually £ 99.00 incl. from my local dealership. Maybee they are splitting the work/cost over the two services (30K & 37.5K) to appear to keep the costs down?!?

Was your car done at a Subaru dealership?

Just had a 37,500 service for my MY98 and it cost just 87 quid all in. That was from my local dealer in Shrewsbury which unfortunately is a long way from Bracknell.

Thanks for your replies....

Yes it was a fully franshised Subaru dealer that quote 160 quid for 37.5k service

They claim that the majority of the cost is taken by the synthetic oil (Esso Ulron) they are contrcated to use at 8 quid a litre !!

I am thinking of taking my own along - can anyone suggest a suitable oil which does not cost a fortune and is of a suitable grade !

I am amazed there is such a difference 87 quid all the way up 70 160 quid for the same service - how can they justify this ??

I will be ringing around other local dealers for their prices .....

Oh and they quoted 447 quid for the 45k service which included the cambelt chnage - how does this stack up with your expereicnes ?

Thanks for your help

Question

Tim

which dealership are you using?

email me if you dont want to post publically.

I use one in the bracknell "area" but there are several I know. Just so I know if it is the dealership I use or not.

I've been looking at prices for my 7.5K service. (I've only done 4K but the 6 month interval is up ).

Gatwick Subaru quoted £150 + VAT
Cheam quoted £100 + VAT with SIDC discount.

Guess where I'll be going

Well there is hope - just phoned Mill Lane @ Basingstoke will do the same service for 103+VAT !

So guess where I'm off tomorrow afternoon !

I refuse to pay 25% extra for a service for no reason !

My 37.5 was £75+VAT (done last month)

Sounds like you are being ripped off, unless your service intervals are out of sync?? and it is actually a full service they need to do, in which case the price is about right. When was your last service (30k?) and how much was that?

Since the first service I had, where my dealer put in Duckhams QXR and charged me 29 pounds for it, I have been taking my own oil along as I can get the same thing for £16 or so. As it is clear to me that they must get it cheaper in bulk than I can, I think these consumables are a way of upping the profits. I also now fill the screenwash reservoir before I take it along as the price of them topping that up buys about a couple of litres of concentrate.
Personally I would do all the interim services myself but I wanted to have the subaru stamps in the book. This way it keeps it down.
Wherever things are due for I (inspect) on a service, I tend to replace them before a service so that I pay say 8 pounds for an airfilter instead of whatever the inflated price of a "genuine" one is.
