Default RB320 vs WR1 vs Some other Scoob

Don't venture into general very often, had a go in a mates WR1 and was impressed, been in a few Scoobs but that was the quickest, was interested how it compares to the RB320, similar power but the performance figures are quite different, 0-100 is 10.67 for the WR1 and 12.2 for the RB320, a second and a half difference, is that just down to gearing, timing differences, surprised me as on paper they are more similar than the figures suggest, in fact the RB320 should by rights be a bit faster.

Also, should i decide to get a Scoob, what would I need to feel noticeably quicker than a WR1 and how much would I need to spend, could it be as reliable and well sorted as a factory special like the WR1 ?

Assuming you are interested in newer cars ie not classics I think you would need to go JDM to be notieably quicker than the WR1. Spec C?

I think 10.67 0-100 for a WR1 is cloud cuckoo land (apologies any owners ). Evo mag got 13.1 IIRC.

Sounds like you want a spec c BTW. That will do 11.1 to 100 mph (Evo again) and is quicker than a WR1.

Not doing anything at the moment, just trying to quantify which model to look at when I finally convince the missus. It felt quicker than 13.1 to 100, I had a Fiat Coupe turbo which was booked at 14.5 and it was way quicker than that.

Just going by Evo's figures..............they tend to be more realistic for us mere mortals. Think Prodrive claimed mid - high elevens????????? Think Prodrive figures are 'capable of' IYKWIM. Dont think even letstorquebhp will give a figure of 10.67 though Nice cars though, I wouldn't mind one!!

2006 UK spec STI +
Remap, filter, plugs and an exhaust = £1000 approx.
Prodrive springs and geometry = £200 approx

Would give a WR1 more than a run for it's money both performance and handling. A WR1 is little more than a STI PPP with prodrive springs and wheels after all.

I did look at a WR1 before buying my car, but just couldn't get away with the colour.

Newage Spec C, serious bit of kit (I had my doubts until I drove one recently).

If you have the cash then the Hawkeye Type RA or the one to have, the RA-R

WR1 figures out of the factory are very optimistic, Spec C/Type 25 etc. would be my route if I had the cash.

Defo a JDM model either way if you are looking at newage models.

Ignoring 0-60 & 1/4mile drag races as ALL these cars are built for handling more than straight runs

If you want a UK car the RB320's are much better than WR1's Ive driven.

A JDM Sti with remap 330/320) with exhaust and remap 350/350 will take some beating by any LTD Edition UK car (except possibly 22B UK)

A Spec C with Remap will make easy meat of a JDM Sti 350/350

T25's as said by above in another league

IMHO

i cant understand what peoples problems are with the wr1s ,the car is a uk car ,and a limited edition ,
so why compair it with the jdm models ?
we all no the jdm cars have more power/torque due to the twin scroll (i think)

and if i spent 2k on my wr1 like people are saying to do on a sti ,my wr1 would still win ,as its 320 standard ,so all ready got a head start

sorry for the rant but getting pi**ed off with all the rant about wr1s

Not necessarily true mate. The UK spec 2.5ltr produces bags more torque than the JDM, but let's not get into that again as too many threads on here already.

Your WR1 wouldn't make more power than a standard STI with the same investment either, as you get to a certain point where you have to spend a lot more (i.e. upgrade turbos etc etc).

The WR1 is a good car if you can get away with the colour, but like most UK limited and special editions from Subaru you are just paying for an expensive remap and a bit of styling. My limited edition didn't even get the remap or a pointless number

I've always wondered what the difference is between a Uk Sti and a WR1, is it just they've tweaked the power or does it have a diffrent turbo and bits

I've nothing against WR1's and don't think people are ranting about them or anything but I think I would spend the money on a JDM Twin Scroll if I was going to buy a newage (especially the Type C RA-R's...mmmmmm) , just an opinion. I have mates with WR1's and we are always ripping the pi$$ out of eachothers motors but it's all tongue n cheek as we are all part of one big, happy Subaru family :-) lol

I run a P1 and a 22B import and always found the P1 vs STi Type R debates interesting cos everyone has their own preferances, same in this case I think.

I'd still have a WR1 but I don't see them as a truly "special" enough car to have one over the quicker, similarly aged/priced Spec C or Type 25.

Sorry that's not quite right

A P1 isn't a Type R with bits removed, it best described as a V6 4 door built into a 2 door bodyshell with Type R suspension.

WR1's have already had £2k's of exhaust and remap

My STi JDM as STD with just a Remap for UK fuel it was 329bhp & 320lbs with exhaust added 349/350.

I have owned a MY00UK PPP, STi02UK PPP, PHP & PF7's, MY99 STiJDM Type R and MY06JDM Type 20. So no axe to grind just want £ per Bang value

I have driven on tracks..2 WR1's, 6+ MY02-5 StiPPP's, 4 P1's, 2 MY98RA's & RB320 Development car at Prodrive Warwick, spec C's etc. I have also test drove all of the above on the Roads

I do rate the RB320, as the best UK Scoob but expensive

I considered a WR1 after my 02STi and Compared the difference in Price/performance against STi02-04 with PPP, PHP & PF7's. Sorry the WR1 was overpriced and under powered IMHO. Although as with a Prodrive LTD edition suspension are excellent

I would take a MY05STi UK with PPP, PHP & PF7's over a WR1 all day long

IIRC IMHO

You did, and very well too

Perhaps better to say, the WR1 is a good car but it's just not an outstanding UK LTD edition like P1 & RB320 are. IMHO

To me the WR1 is a MY05 STi with PPP in a MY04 Body shell, good way to shift old stock though

Stu I was never a fan of the WR1, but I'm not saying it isn't a good car. It was the colour I didn't like.

All I'm saying is at the time they released the WR1 with the DCCD, just round the corner was the MY05 STi Type UK which Subaru UK would have know was coming with DCCD as standard

yes but the wr1 came with 320 as standard ,where a 05 sti needed a ppp to only get 305,

the wr1 is only the same as a rb5,terzo,cataluna(sp), p1,rb320, etc etc
its a limited edition ,and i dont see these getting ripped as much

i no there was over priced new , but i didnt get it new ,and i was sick of looking at wr blue ones when i was looking

any way im going back to a evo, next time i get a car as the fq340 is the best car out of the box for me
