Default Your Thoughts Please, re. hawk WRX vs 08 WRX

i own an 02WRX at the moment and looking to buy something a little newer

i have been looking at the hawkeye mainly as i like the looks and the 2.5 engine aint all that bad?? so i believe

on my travels (web searches) i have seen low mile 08 cars for sale at less than 12K a little over my budget, i can wait for prices to come down a bit more and i could get to like the syling (maybe )

has anyone had/driven both cars? your views would be valued

cheers

steve

BTW i like to drive my impreza like it was ment to be driven

There are the odd 06 hawkeye STIs available for close to £10k, absolute bargain!

The cost to mod a bugeye WRX exceeds the cost to upgrade to a 06 STI with better engine, more power, less lag, better suspension, brakes, handling, gearbox not to mention being 4-5 years newer.

thats the aurument that my partner at work put to me as i was thinking of going down the mod route -

low miles Sti engine
6 speed box and diffs
brembos
rear ARB
Sti seats etc
+ Pulling in some favours from my machinic buddies a far amount of work involved

i was budgeting on about £4-5K

lets say it cost me £5K to mod + what my existing cars worth £2900 =£8000 ish

i can get an late 06 hawk for £8k or an 07 for £9K less what i get for my old car and what i get for the mods that will be taken off - morriettes(sp?), backbox, dump valve and front/rear prodrive bumper extensions.

it just does'nt make sence to mod my car

so i am looking to buy an 07 hawk WRX or if the price comes down a touch and it prob will, an 08 new shape WRX. then get PPP or similar. The Sti is not out of the question either as a modded WRX comes in at £560 insurance wise and a standard sti is £526

the reason for my post is to get feed back on peoples thoughts (who have owned both the hawkeye and new model) as to the driving enjoyment/pitfalls of both cars.

I know before someone mensions it that i could test drive both cars, i could but i would not get the full picture of the car/cars capabilities. you cant really take someone elses car to the limit or should i say the limit of my driving skill can you?

THANKS FOR THE REPLYS SO FAR

Steve
