Erm ! I'd like to have room for one of each, but only the 22B really does it for me !

And my Prodrive STI (bug-eye) of course !

Classic for me. If I had the money I would put in a 2.5 in it.

classic pretty much the same reason as Big-kev .
i didnt know it till i sold but i love the obnoxious noises, bone breaking ride and the fact i feel and hear every thing you always know whats happing where you and what the road surface is like.
never drove a new age scoob but i have been in a couple and it just didnt have the same special feel as the classic for me

I have a bugeye, for some reason I consider it to be the shape between the classic and the newage, I know its classified as a newage but to me it seems to be that transition shape.
To me it feels like the famous shape, the one a kid would draw if you asked them to draw a Subaru rally car.

So thats me firmly on the fence

They all have their good points. I'm quite partial to a bugeye STI but I do like the classic ones. STI V5s look brilliant.

Oh just to add, I had no interest in cars until I watched rallying first on tv then in the welsh forests and the classic scooby burble made me want one, so in rallying terms it has to be a my 94/95/96 4 door, L555BAT and L555REP for instance

i think i prefer the look of the classics, but to drive - a newage every time. you sit looking at the inside, not the outside

First scoob = MY00 turbo, classic, second scoob was an MY03 STI Spec C, new age, third scoob is a MY99 STI type R.
I loved each one for a different reason, I have not had enough time with the Type R yet but its a very clean example but if i had the money, I would buy another Spec C and probably do what Scooby tc has done, keep the type r and spec c

I first got into the Scooby scene in 2001 & test drove a few classics, which I found raw & enjoyed the go-cart like feel.
I then got behind the wheel of a 51-plate UK WRX bugeye & was sold. (although to date, I still love the classic look)

After many happy trouble free miles in the WRX, putting up with the lack of power below 3k revs, I got a 54-plate Type UK STi & wow! The issues I found with the WRX were all gone. The STi pulled in all gears whenever I wanted!
The car was great, just that it used batteries every few months!

Well then came along the RB320, what a machine, nuff said.
Love it!

I had a bugeye WRX for a year [which I didn't really care for], the nI got a MY03 STI which was a winner. I modded it to 340/310 and suspension upgrades but I fell out of love with it's characteristics although to look at it was a dream.

I now have an RB5 which is well modded but I have been to busy cleaning it and modding it and only covered 2 k miles in 8 months.

Either way all have been great fun.

The STi looked awesome and turned heads all day long.
The classic RB5 is fun and frantic and very entertaining.

Newage by far I just cant understand the logic of buying a classic unless a newage is out your budget?

Have you driven a classic?

Had 3 Classics, still got 2, rough value about £2k ea (on a good day).

Had a 35kmiles 53 plate WRX blobeye this year for £7k. Had it 3 months and sold it as we found it too slow and boring. Very refined and quiet but too heavy/ponderous and no fun . Luckily we still had the classics so sold the blobeye and went back to the fun life. Better bang per buck and more smiles per mile so not all classic owners are strapped for cash newage wannabes. Some of us who were brought up in Vivas (yes I am that old), Escorts, Marinas, Cortinas, Porsches and mid engined Lancias like to be in contact with the road, not isolated from it, and don't particularly care what they look like. Just what they drive like. Each to his own

Maybe the Sti's are better but they ARE out of my budget and, as I have never driven one, I reserve judgement on them. But they would have to be SERIOUSLY better to justify the extra £8k purchase price and the potential depreciation, road tax etc.

Helmet on and waiting, Merry Christmas
